Yesterday morning all four of us were out the door and on our way to Deer Park for the race. We got to the high school and got ourselves checked in, our race numbers, and race shirts then waited the little while for the race to start.
The mile was an out and back and J took off quite fast while R hung back with . I kept up with J until he got tired from the sprinting he was doing and slowed. Made the turn around at a half mile and I was a bit surprised I was able to keep a constant pace the whole mile. I came in second overall in 7:24, which I am pretty proud of for a couch to 1 mile jump. I still have a tiny bit of stamina and I pushed as hard as I could to the line.
I cheered everyone in as they came to the finish. R had gotten ahead of his older brother and he pushed hard the last couple hundred feet.
He came in right at 10 minutes for the mile, his first foot race ever.
J came behind R by about 40 seconds, thanks to his sprint at the beginning. His time was about 10:40. R got first for his age group and J got second to him.
knee was bugging her so she had to go a bit slower to accommodate but she still came in under 12 minutes.
Granted there was not a ton of people for the mile, the crowd is always for the 5K, but going from zero to a mile is far more comfortable than zero to 5k.
Not bad to all place at the top for a race.
The afternoon was spent watching the Seahawks get obliterated by the 49ers. It was a pretty foregone conclusion at the outset but one can always have a modicum of hope. Towards the end of the game I set to making tortillas for dinner. I wasn't paying attention and ended up making a batch of dough out of 100% quinoa flour. That was NOT what I had been meaning to make so I made another correct batch with the 30% quinoa flour. The 100% batch got covered with plastic wrap and I will try to press them out today.
I pressed the correct dough out after dividing it. The initial presses went to the cutting mat then once the stove was hot I started hand rolling them then slapping them on to cook.
I made a handful of tiny tortillas out of the all quinoa to have taste of which ended up tasting rather good.
The wheat and quinoa tortillas came out quite nicely and worked perfectly for our dinner.
The boys and I got loaded up in the truck and we headed up to the grange for Bingo night. Food concessions are setup in the kitchen and thankfully the 4H group provided the food. Burgers, nachos, popcorn, hotdogs, chips, sodas, cake, and brownies were all available and the cubs were working the sales counter. J ended up being the money moan as he can do math in his head, R started out on the popcorn filling station which he did really well at and had some pretty good patience.
They did 4 rounds of Bingo with a completely packed room. There was only seating on the benches along the walls. Quite a good turnout. By 7:45 pm we were cleaning up and we were on our way home by about 8. I'm really proud of the boys as they ll did really well given the chaos of the sales counter with all the people.
Today there is lots of sportsing going on and I'll probably have soccer on rather than footyball. The paragliding school is back from Mexico so this week I should be getting a response and hopefully a date scheduled. I am behind on my Duolingo lessons and need to get a bunch done today, I have to roll out the quinoa tortillas and get them cooked, then I will grill tonight since I didn't the past 2 days.
