Hello, dear Hive friends! I hope you have spent a merry Christmas.
Quería hablarles un poco sobre las fiestas navideñas en mi país, ya que hay ciertas costumbres que cambian, como por ejemplo, La Víspera de Navidad, en la cual es una celebración incluso más especial que la de la Navidad aquí, en Venezuela.
I wanted to tell you a little about Christmas holidays in my country, since there are certain customs that change, for examplo, Christmas Eve, which is even a more special celebration than Christmas here, in Venezuela.
Primero que todo, aquí los niños normalmente no creen en Santa Claus sino en El Niño Jesús, el cual es el que "les trae los regalos" y los pone debajo del árbol de Navidad. Los niños hacen su carta pidiendo lo que quieran al Niño Jesús días antes del 24 de Diciembre, la dejan en el árbol, y luego el 25 de Diciembre a las 12:00 am los adultos buscan la forma de distraerlos para dejar los regalos debajo del árbol y que unos 15 minutos después los niños los encuentren allí, a diferencia de otros países, en los que duermen, y el 25 de diciembre en la mañana a la hora del desayuno reciben sus regalos.
First of all, here children usually do not believe in Santa Claus but in The Child God, Jesus, who "bring the gifts to them" and put them under the Christmas tree. Children make their letter asking for what they want to The Child God a couple of days before December 24th, they leave the letter on the tree, and then on December 25th at 12:00 am adults look for ways to distract them to leave the gifts under the tree and about 15 minutes later the children find them there, in contrast to other countries in which the children sleep all night and in the morning of December 25th at breakfast time they receive their gifts.
Tenemos la costumbre de comprar ropa que nos guste para usarla el 24 y el 31 de Diciembre, y les llamamos los estrenos, y normalmente nos tomamos fotos con esta ropa nueva al lado del árbol y nuestras familias.
We use to buy new clothes that we like to wear it on December 24th and 31st, and we called these los estrenos (something like brand new clothes), and we usually take pictures dressing with this new clothes next to the Christmas tree and our family members.
Nosotros hacemos algo llamado pesebre o nacimiento, lo cual es una representación del nacimiento de Jesús, y ya que nos quedamos despiertos para recibir la Navidad a las 12:00 am, a esa hora ponemos a una figura de Jesús bebé en el medio de las figuras María y José, y antes de esto el pesebre se encuentra con ese espacio vacío.
We make something called pesebre or nacimiento, which is representation of Jesus birth, since we stay awake to receive Christmas at 12:00 am, just at that time we put a figure of baby Jesus in the middle of María and José figures, and before this, the pesebre has that space empty.
Como pudieron darse cuenta, el 24 de Diciembre es muy importante para nosotros, ya que no solo nos ponemos ropa nueva y nos damos regalos, sino que también tenemos una cena familiar esa noche con nuestros platos típicos navideños, los adultos beben alcohol, los niños juegan y todos se trasnochan. El 25 de Diciembre, que es Navidad, todos nos despertamos muy tarde y no hacemos nada especial, solo comer comida recalentada y dormir.
As you could realized, December 24th is very important to us, because we not only wear new clothes and give each other gifts, but we also have a family dinner that night with our typical Christmas meals, adults drink alcohol, children play and everyone stays up late. December 25th, which is Christmas, we wake up late and do not do anything special, just eating reheated food and sleeping.
