Sorpresa primero, por la escultura como tal y el lugar donde está ubicada. Admiración después por una ciudad que reconoce y da un vigoroso lugar a sus valores humanos.

La escultura representa al arquitecto catalán, nativo de la ciudad de Reus. Es el adolescente Gaudí, sentado en un banco de la acera, jugando metras o canicas, cerca de su casa y el taller de su abuelo.

The sculpture depicts the Catalan architect, native to the city of Reus. He is the teenage Gaudí, sitting on a sidewalk bench, playing metras or marbles, near his home and his grandfather's workshop.]

En la misma acera está una placa, también de bronce en la que se lee: Gaudí adolescent. Any Gaudí 2002. Obra d'Artur Aldoma. Ajuntament de Reus. Está escrito en catalán. Gaudí vivió en Reus hasta su adolescencia cuando viajó a Barcelona (España), en donde dejó obras que lo inmortalizan. No produjo ninguna en Reus, pero la ciudad conserva los lugares donde pasó esos años, incluida su casa natal. Dicha Ruta es uno de los atractivos turísticos que ofrece la ciudad, pero yo tengo la suerte de contar con una buena amiga catalana quien me llevó directamente al lugar, motivando mi curiosidad diciéndome: Te tengo una sorpresa. Y desde luego que fue una linda sorpresa ver allí, en la esquina, en plena acera frente a mi, el niño con su carita inclinada, jugando metras.

El rostro no se aprecia bien desde el frente, pues está concentrado en su juego, absorto. Debí hacer peripecias de novata en fotografía para obtener una toma decente

Me llamaron la atención sus pies colgando del banco pero sin llegar a tocar el suelo. Los zapatos están bien delineado. En general, uno de los aspectos más llamativos de la escultura es la torsión del joven sentado y los pliegos en su ropa que lo acentúan.

Hay que irse, mi amiga tiene obligaciones laborales y la puntualidad es otro valor destacado del pueblo catalán. Les dejo de despedida una última fotografía. Una de las bolas de bronce, embonadas en el banco que giran sobre sí mismas y producen su propia música. La que quiera darle la imaginación del visitante o el paisano que quiera hacer girar esas esferas ya algo desgastadas de tantos roces.
