I have always been a fan of snacking on nuts, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, and of course pecans. And one of my favorite snacks or treats is this candied pecans recipe. They are so incredibly delicious and rather addicting.
This easy candied pecans recipe is perfect for the Holidays or any time of the year. Eat them as a snack as is, or put them on top of salads, vanilla ice cream, or whatever you like.
Also known as glazed pecans, sugared pecans, or caramelized pecans, whatever you want to call them, they are tasty! And incredibly simple to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let’s get baking!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup of white granulated sugar 150g
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar 55g
- 2 tsp. ground cinnamon 5g
- 1/2 tsp. salt 2g
- 2 1/2 to 3 cups of pecan halves 247 to 297g, can use even more if you like, doesn’t have to be exact
- 1 egg white from a large egg
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 275 F/135 C. In a medium bowl, whisk together the white granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Add the egg white from one large egg into a large bowl and whisk until nice and frothy.
Then add the sugar mixture to the bowl with the egg white. Melt the butter in the microwave or in a pot on the stovetop just until barely melted and not hot. Pour that into the mixture and whisk well until you get a sugary paste.
Add the pecans to the sugar paste and with a spatula fold and mix until well coated. If you like you can add even more pecans, just depends on how much you want them to be candied, you can go as high as 4 cups.
Take a sheet pan and line it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Then spread out the pecan mixture into an even 1 layer.
Bake in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes. After 10 to 12 minutes, remove the pan and then stir and flip the pecans. Spread them out again, and then back in the oven. Repeat 3 more times, for a total of 40 to 45 minutes of baking. Keep an eye on them so they don't burn.
Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool to room temperature. It will take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
The candy coating should be crunchy, and the pecans will be roasted.
After they have cooled put them in a nice serving bowl or in little individual packages for gifts, whatever you like. Enjoy 🙂
