I've been more than surprised on that this home gardening and getting food from it situation is bringing me honestly. Maybe it is because of of the warm weather we have been having the last couple of weeks.
Or maybe it is just because my skillset on homegrowing stuff has increased because of using the homegrowing app and finally realizing the timing of what you have to do in the starting phase and how you should maintain your plants.
This time up...tons of snaps or pods or whatever you call them. So many of them that there are multiple meals being made with this at the moment. Extremely satisfying and literally no work at all.
Makkelijke Moestuin (Easy homekitchen) app
As mentioned before I use this app called makkelijke moestuin.nl also you can switch to English which helps me guide in what the hell I am doing.
For instance with these snaps one of the first things you do is lay them to 'hatch' on some soaked toiletpaper covered with some plastic foil to create a nice circumstance to let the root develop.
Then you plant them inside, and also it considers the Dutch weather for when it is time to take them plants outside.
I would never have known that this was the way to go honestly.
Snaps snaps snaps
Admittingly these snaps are very willing to grow with not all that much of an effort. That means it helps if you make them a rack to lean on, because these guys grow fast and I mean really fast.
It was a cool process to watch actually because the plants have these little tentacles that want to grasp everything that they find. But that also means each other with also means they end up in a knob every now and then.
I am still a bit cautious cutting them when they tangle each other because I am not sure if this is the place from where they grow or not, and if I might kill them.
I didn't attacthed them to the net anywhere with additional strings, the plants to it all by itself. Just with some water and some sunlight (and I guess also some good growing temperatures) all of the florished nicely with the bees swinging by.
As you can see the snaps are growing everywhere and also the harvesting was going quite easily.
Also the app told me that the lower side of the bush could start to turn brown because the plant is using all the nutrients to give the juicyness to the snaps otherwise I would have been concerned I guess.
Everything is happening as the app is telling me, and it feels reassuring that even I can do this hahaha.
Big one to look out for. The snails that want to eat the young plants in the starting phase. Now it wouldnt really matter but in the beginning you have to be cautious and check the plants especially after rain.
Turnip
Another plant that also was doing good business were the turnips. I understand that you think differntly when you see the roots of it, but actually...when you eat the roots and you dont see what is going on in the soil, this was already quite satisfying honestly.
Everything ended up in the stirfry together with a sauce made of garlice, onions, ginger, fishoil, soya, and lemonjuice.
I never knew it was so easy and the new plants are already in the ground growing like crazy!
