Because I'm completely new to gardening I take an easy start. Taking baby steps .. one at a time. No rush, no pressure ... complete Zen on my balcony :)
2 weeks ago a friend gave me a bunch of kamote. Kamote is the local name for sweet potato here in the Philippines. The leaves are used like spinach. So I made a delicious dish with the kamote leaves (more at the end of this post).
So now I ended up with a lot of twigs. Mmmm.. what shall I do with them? So I just planted them in a pot and gave them every day a bit of water. After a couple of days I could see little new leaves were coming at the top. So now I'm 2 weeks later and I already did one harvest of fresh leaves. Soon I will have to put the twigs in bigger pots to let them grow even better.
This was just an experiment and this really was so easy. The kamote is growing like weeds. I don't have the intention to wait till I have the sweet potato plant, because I prefer to eat the leaves :)
And specially for the foodies: this is the result of my dish. I used the kamote leaves, garlic (lots), chicken, couscous and a tikka massala sauce. Sadly, I can't eat rice but you can try this with rice of course. First you strip the leaves from the branches. Prepare the couscous according the instructions on the package. Stir fry the chicken and add all the other ingredients.
Enjoy and Bon Appetit!
