Hmm.. that topic shook my thoughts when I first saw it because it keeps me processing of why I am on Hive and How to keep going on well.
But that's probably for another post, this is my response to the 2nd Newbie initiative activity given at the last discord meeting which held. To be candid, I enjoyed that meeting, just like I do every Hive meeting held especially with the peeps. I don't want to miss them for anything.
Back to the NewbieInitiative, in case you re a newbie reading this, my post will also be a guide for you to follow as these topic was really dealt with by ,
and
, they are all huge inspirations to me actually.
So let's delve in to it. Why and How on Hive.
I figure this post may not be so efficacious if I write it from the basic knowledge of hive I have alone, so to help other newbie get the full gist, I ll like go by way of interaction with a newbie
say some of my thoughts before and after the meeting before and after. I also share my questions during the meeting and the answers I got. While doing these, I would answer the following key questions.
Why must you avoid plagiarism?
How do you source a text or image on Hive and why do you have to source texts and images that are not yours?
Why should you not tag numerous people on your post?
Why you should not publish the same articles numerous times?
What is the acceptable amount of articles you can publish per day?
What is the importance of engagement?
What other points did you learn from the video?
This is is gonna be one of the best Newbie material (Written by a newbieđ). I m sure you get the gist.
Welcome to Hive.
Hive is a blockchain platform based on web3 where a decentralized social media can exist, and contents rewarded.
Before I joined hive, I had Instagram, YouTube and Audiomack contents which I really wanted to promulgate to something FUNDzamental.. you got that.đđ
Turns out, it was so hard for even a smart guy to achieve that. I had never earned from posting anything on those platforms, it took who saw one of my posts on WhatsApp to convince me to join and be active.
Having joined I realize the learning curve was so steep, my ginger was high tho, because would not let you rest with his challenges, I m glad I yielded. That was how I saw
share me a link under one of my posts.. when I checked out who he was and what he did.. I knew this was for me. Immediately I joined and ever since, Hive has been made easy.
Our first task was posted and it was on goal setting, you can read my post here
Here
You will see the binge of ginger I was high on. I still totally believe every thing there is possible and I m working hard to achieve them.
Then our first class..
Starstrings, Projectmamabg, and eddiespino made the introduction and it all began.
By now we all knew what Hive was and how to navigate the various front ends.
But some rules exist and that can be frowned upon
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism is a word gotten from plagiarize which according to Merriam-Webster's dictionary means
> : to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source
In other words, any unlawful copying of a portion or full part of another persons work, written or verbal without acknowledging its owner as if it were yours.
Why must I avoid plagiarism? Doesn't everyone copy something they read somewhere?
On Hive, this is totally wrong and frowned at greatly.
I have seen several post which were muted in some communities because the person's post was same as a story somewhere on the internet. We support creativity, no one is against being inspired by another's work or quoting a part of it with proper referencing, but do not copy.
Do your research when preparing for a post, get your resources all lined up and state where you got them from.
Be Creative too, making an effort to create a post is mostly rewarded on the platform.
So how much of peoples work can I include in my post?
I would say, use your own words, although you could use peoples quotes but they must'nt be more than 25% of your post.
Hive is not like Facebook or WhatsApp where everyone can send a message like its their own without sourcing the owner and the person goes scot free.
How do you source a text or image on Hive and why do you have to source texts and images that are not yours?
Hmm, sourcing was also discussed and you are right to have asked. It is simple.
When you have either a text or image, also note and say where you got it from.
For a text that is not your own, use this > symbol at the back during your post creation and then view it in your preview..
It will appear like this
It will appear like this
then state under where the quote was gotten, you can make the texts smaller by formatting it like this sub's
text gotten from link
and you have cited your source
When you want to source a picture, where ever you got it from, pixabay or unsplash after loading the image
add [ then write 'source' then close this ], then open (, the paste the link you copied from the picture site and insert ).
You ll get a hyperlink text
Source
Can I Tag people too?
Yes, yes .. tagging is a way of calling someone's attention to your post, they will get a mention notification when you do and come read it. However, you shouldn't tag numerous people.
Why should I not tag numerous people on your post?
First as a newbie, you need to develop your skill in creating good content, tagging people will be interpreted as you calling for upvotes you don't deserve. Just like a good market sells itself, a good post will be seen.
Also, it could be very discomforting if everyone is mentioning you in different posts, the time it takes to view that notification for a post that may not be worth the upvote. What you just need to do now is engage, rather than spam up their notification.
Why you should not publish the same articles numerous times?
Lol, this is so low to think about.. like, why would you think of that.. of course you can't. You ll just be spamming the platform. Rather have a lot of ideas in your draft, develop them over time and post them when you re ready in the appropriate communities. This way, you can Better appreciate your upvotes because you worked for it.
**Now also note that you can be downvoted if you do such.
**
What is the acceptable amount of articles you can publish per day?
Aww.. calm down, before you go and start giving us newspaper articles.
You need to access yourself, what's your timing like and how creative can you be.
What content niche are you good at and how much can you offer?
You don't wanna post and no one is interested in it. You also don't want to fall into the most dreaded burnout.
So work it out, there are various conclusions on what to do, but from the class 1 to 2 posts per day is what I agree with the most although you can post up to 4 times a day.
Now where wisdom comes in is this, if I see your post and it was very good and I gave you my 100% up vote (Considering I am a whaleđ), and I see another one just few hours later.. I must think you are probably using the system and no matter how good it is, I Wont give you 100% of my vote again.
Allow others express and explore their chances of getting upvotes too and rather than post and post, engage on other people's post as that is what the community is mostly for.
What is the importance of engagement?
Now you are getting it, if you write a post and people come to comment under it, how do you feel?
Excited I guess, that someone read your post, like some people are doing now and understanding my flow. They then comment under, their own independent opinions about what ever I posted.
This will lead to an intelligent conversation which can breed more ideas for subsequent post, it can bring friendship because I have found someone whose idea aligns with mine, and most importantly, improvement in your subsequent posts as some of these comments will be constructive and encouraging ones.
When ever I see comments under my posts I feel even more satisfied than the upvotes, because it stirs my core to wanna do more because someone out there can relate.
What other points did you learn from the video?
One of them was when I asked about autovoting Which had 2 meanings and both were answered.
First meaning
Self voting.. Can I upvote my piece?
Yes, you can, but you shouldn't, as this just points to the fact that you probably desperate for the votes. Like I earlier said if your content is good, it will get the needed attention if you play your cards well.
Second meaning
Automatic Voting: can I vote without being online?
Yes, but you shouldn't do this too much, auto curation is for goons who may not have time to curate good works and so they follow curation trails which searches for good content and automatically vote.
