I always like to start my post with an eye catching photo 👀
Happy #fungifriday 🍄🙂 I took a Friday foraging trip to southern Vermont and had some luck ☘️
First I found some very young chicken of the woods.
These were very tender 😋
Black trumpets 😁
The black trumpets also known as black chantrelles were the reason for the trip. They are very tasty. I returned to the same area I visited last week and foraged some more. Brought some home though not in the same quantity as last week 🙁
Many of the black trumpets were growing from the forest floor in the mottled sun light.
The mix of leaves on the forest floor remineded me of a puzzle. Or hidden object picture... can you spot the black trumpet?
More black trumpets growing from the end of a log.
Growing under a rock. This is a very good place for black trumpets. They were all over.
My favorite black trumpet photo of the day 🤩
Omelette for Lunch 😁. Black trumpets and chicken of the woods. With some red cherry and yellow grape tomatoes from the garden. Plus a little Vermont cheddar cheese. Very tasty but I guess I jumped to the end of the story.
Also topped omelette with some fresh basil from garden. Ok I'm going to finish lunch before I finish this post 🤣
Back to my trip, I also found some oyster mushrooms. I harvested some of these also. I harvested chicken of the woods, black trumpets and the oyster mushrooms.
I found lots of mushrooms so now be prepared for lots of unidentified shots - like this very interesting black and white mushroom cap.
Here's a bright splash of color! two orange mushrooms.
Older brown mushroom with two small orange mushrooms.
Mature brownish red mushroom.
Emerging white mushroom.
White mushroom with a look at the forest. This is typical of the area I was foraging today. It is a forest preserve in southern Vermont. Many of the towns have a small forest preserve or town forest. Some date back to the original land grants from the English monarchy before the American Revolution.
Crisp white mushroom.
Decaying yellow mushrooms.
Greyish mushroom.
Interesting mushroom cap.
Cool looking purple mushroom in the shade.
Some older shelf mushrooms.
Opened up mushroom.
Purple mushroom. Its interesting to see the wide variety of mushrooms.
Here's an interesting red mushroom. I think this is a red bolette.
Another red mushroom more opened up.
Nice new growth shelf mushrooms.
I included this shot just because I like the photo.
Another more for the photo than the mushroom 🙃
Bright orange mushrooms that stand out as different.
There was actually a range of yellows and oranges.
Fun fungi shot of one of the little distinctly yellow mushroom.
More of the brighter yellows.
Variation on the yellows, yellow stem with brown/grey cap.
Is it lifting that rock? 🤣
There is also significant variance even among the seemingly common white mushrooms. This one has a little of a translucent feel.
Nice photo of a white mushroom coming up.
Some nice shelf mushrooms to end my post. Reishi mushrooms I think. Thanks for making it this far if you are still with me lol. I could have stopped with the mushrooms I foraged but I saw so many different mushroom varieties, I couldn't stop myself from over-sharing. 😳
Have a great Friday. Happy #fungifriday 🍄🙂
