Just sometimes, "what the hell" is the right answer to any question.
In this case, I spent Sunday morning packing website orders, and then discovered one of our key suppliers had inflicted a stealth price increase on us without any warning.
What I should have done is spend the day creating and importing data files so that we wouldn't make a loss on new stock being delivered. But that was a bit of a depressing way to spend a Sunday, so we took a "what the hell" decision, and went to visit our favourite patisserie.
It's in West Byfleet, which is about a 40-minute drive from where we live, so the fact that we're prepared to travel that far for a cake tells you how good they are.
I'm sorry in advance if the rest of this post reads like an advert - it's not sponsored, I'm just a super-fan of the place !
All photos in this post by me; I'm not the world's best photographer, but hopefully it'll give an idea of how yummy it all was 🙂
First course; my wife had a veggie quiche, and I had Welsh Rarebit. It may look like cheese on toast, but there's far more to it than that, and their particular recipe has a nice rich mustardy flavour.
For dessert, I had a strawberry trifle in a pot. Nicely refreshing on a summer day !
My wife had a coconut and mango creation (sorry, not sure it's official name !), which she assures me was equally yummy.
The owners, Jo and Istvan, are Hungarian and Istvan is the most talented patissiere I've even known. I'm guessing he's had formal training, he regularly comes up with delicious new cakes, and they consistently win all kinds of awards for both the quality of their food and their service.
Even though we arrived around lunchtime, they were already running low on goodies in the chiller cabinet, so it's definitely worth going earlier rather than later in the day.
Luckily the non-chilled section still had a good choice, so we were able to get some takeaways !
So that's my favourite cake shop. It's called Sweet Passion, and if you are ever passing through (or near) West Byfleet in Surrey, it definitely counts as a "must visit" 😀
