Happy Tuesday, dear Cinnamon Cup Coffe! It's been a long time since I've written, friends—two months, in fact, since I've been able to share my coffee adventures! But the reason has a lot to do with the title of this publication, since mid-February I had to cease my research activities at the Faculty of Dentistry where I enjoyed every morning the good coffee of its cafeteria and to which I dedicated a very special post. Time had caught up with me, friends; I had to finish writing my doctoral thesis and I was stuck on interpreting the latest results. You could call it writer's block, but it forced me to isolate myself from my entire social circle, including distancing myself from blockchain, in order to finally find the inspiration that led me to finish my doctoral thesis! You can't imagine the spiritual liberation it was to finish the result of years of research and finally submit it.

It was in the first days of April that I finished writing and submitted the manuscript to my advisor for final revisions. A week and a half later, she invited me here to the Royal Café to discuss this final version of the thesis. I had a good feeling about this meeting with my advisor because when she asks me to meet at one of the trendiest cafés in eastern Caracas, it usually means the thesis is ready and won't need any more corrections. And indeed, that was the great news! Not only was it ready to be defended before the grand jury, but they were already asking us to prepare a brief summary of one of the experiments to be published in a peer-reviewed journal! That made it clear to me that more than a meeting to discuss the details of the document, it was a meeting to celebrate the culmination of the laboratory's main line of research.

I had been to this café before, after the pandemic, but at that time it was being remodeled. It was in 2025 that the remodeling was complete and it was relaunched with two spaces: one inside the café where they also sell bread, and an outdoor area to enjoy a good coffee with a sweet treat like a chocolate croissant while taking in the view. Our decision was clear: order a coffee to enjoy at the tables outside the café. They gave us a small chocolate cookie free with our coffee, and since that wasn't enough, we ordered a guava-filled pastry, which we asked them to cut in half to share.

We both ordered coffee with milk, but my tutor had requested a dark brown coffee since she prefers to savor the strength and body of a good dark coffee, sweetened only by a small amount of milk. The coffee this café typically uses is the classic variety from this part of eastern Caracas: San Antonio whole bean coffee, which they then grind and brew. This produces an extremely pure and highly aromatic coffee, so much so that it tends to intoxicate the senses!

Now, in my case, I like to order a large cup of light café con leche, also known as a light brown coffee. Since we were going to enjoy a piece of sweet bread with guava paste inside, I didn't worry about sweetening my cup.

And so we spent the afternoon, enjoying this delicious cup of coffee with guava bread, no longer just a coffee between a tutor and student, but as equals. After so many years of meetings of this type, for the first time we met to discuss the future lines of research for the laboratory and to begin structuring an interdisciplinary research project that will surely be approved and continue developing research for the country.

Well, friends, it was a pleasure to share this experience with you. I titled this post "A Pivotal Moment" because it feels like I'm closing a chapter in my professional career and preparing for new challenges. Feliz martes apreciada comunidad de Cinnamon Cup Coffe! Tenía mucho tiempo sin escribir amigos, de hecho 2 meses sin poder compartirles mis aventuras cafeteras! Pero la razón tiene mucho que ver con el título de esta publicación, desde mediados de Febrero tuve que cesar mis actividades de investigación en la Facultad de Odontología donde disfrutaba cada mañana del buen café de su cafetería y al que le dediqué un post muy especial. El tiempo me había alcanzado amigos, ya tenía que terminar de escribir mi tesis doctoral y me encontraba estancado en la interpretación del último resultado. Podrías llamarlo bloqueo del escritor, pero esto me llevó a tener que aislarme de todo mi entorno social incluyendo alejarme de la blockchain para finalmente encontrar la inspiración que me llevó a terminar mi tesis doctoral! No se imaginan la liberación espiritual que significó terminar el resultado de años de investigación y finalmente entregarlo.

Fue en los primeros días de abril que terminé de escribir y le entregué el escrito a mi tutora para hiciera las correcciones finales. Una semana y media después me citó aquí en la cafetería Royal para discutir esta última versión de la tesis. Tenía una buena impresión de esta cita con m i tutora, porque cuando me pide que nos encontremos en una de las cafeterías más trending topic del este de Caracas significaba que la tesis ya estaba lista y no necesitaría más correcciones. En efecto esa fue la gran noticia! No solo que estaba lista para ser defendida ante el gran jurado sino que ya nos estaban solicitando que preparáramos un breve resumen de uno de los experimentos para ser publicado en una revista arbitrada! Eso me dejo claro que más que una reunión para hablar de los detalles del escrito era una reunión para celebrar la culminación de la línea de investigación principal del laboratorio.

Ya había estado en otro momento en esta cafetería, posterior a la pandemia, solo que en ese momento la cafetería estaba en proceso de remodelación. Fue en 2025 que ya se había terminado de remodelar y relanzarse con 2 espacios, uno dentro de la cafetería donde también venden pan y un espacio exterior para degustar de un buen café acompañado de un dulce como un croissant de chocolate mientras disfrutas de la vista exterior. Nuestra decisión fue clara, pedir un café para disfrutarlo en las mesas puestas en el exterior de la cafetería. Para acompañar el café nos dieron gratis una pequeña galleta de chocolate, como era poco para acompañar el café, pedimos un pan relleno de guayaba que pedimos cortar a la mitad para disfrutarlo entre los dos.

Ambos pedimos café con leche, pero en el caso de mi tutora, había pedido un marrón oscuro ya que le gusta saborear en mayor medida la fuerza y el cuerpo de un buen café oscuro, solamente endulzado por la adición de una pequeña cantidad de leche. En este sentido, el café que suele usar esta cafetería es el clásico de esta parte del este de Caracas: San Antonio en grano que posteriormente muelen y lo pasan por la máquina. Esto produce un café extremadamente puro y altamente aromático, tanto que tiende a embriagar los sentidos!

Ahora en mi caso, me gusta pedir una gran taza de café con leche claro o también conocido como marrón claro. Como íbamos a saborear un trozo de pan azucarado con dulce de guayaba en su interior, no me preocupo endulzar mi taza.

Así pasamos la tarde, disfrutando de esta deliciosa taza de café con pan de guayaba, ya no como un café entre un tutor y su estudiante, sino como iguales. Después de tantos años en reuniones de este tipo, por primera vez nos reunimos para plantear las futuras líneas de investigación del laboratorio e ir estructurando un proyecto de investigación interdisciplinario que seguramente será aprobado y continuar desarrollando investigación para el país.

Y bien amigos, fue un gusto compartir esta experiencia con ustedes. Titulé esta publicación como un momento trascendental porque es sentir que ya estoy cerrando un ciclo de mi carrera profesional y ya me estoy preparando para nuevos desafíos.
