After visiting the Cromford Classic Car and Bike Show, we popped over the other side of the canal to the Wheatcroft’s Wharf Café that was in the distance.

There was plenty of outdoor seating with a lovely view over the Cromford Canal, but we decided to sit inside where we could choose from sitting at ground level or go upstairs if we were feeling fit. Downstairs it was!

The building used to be the Canal Warehouse and was built in 1794 for Nathaniel Wheatcroft, who started the first boat passenger service from Cromford, taking fee paying passengers to Nottingham. Source What a great way to travel.

We ordered scrambled egg on toast, a bacon and tomato quiche with salad and a black americano and a latte.

I picked up a mallard's feather outside the cafe.
They seem to be moulting at the moment. I love the blue purple flash they have on their wings (see below).

You can just see the blue purple flash on mummy!

It was a good idea to convert an old wharf building into a cafe, especially here as the canal is well visited and there's usually something happening around the area. I've been a couple of times now and found it always has good snacks, and the coffee is nice and strong too.
