We popped into the Peak Village in Rowsley, Derbyshire for a bite to eat and a hot drink. It's actually a small shopping centre and sounds good on paper, but a lot of the shops open and then quickly close. Perhaps the rent is too high. It's a shame as it is in a great location and has free parking.
The cafe still had a nice Christmassy feel to it as we approach the new year.
Part of the cafe is dog friendly which is always a plus in my book. It makes good business sense as it is in the middle of the countryside so lots of people are out dog walking.
We ordered a chicken supreme with vegetables and chips ...
And a vegetable quiche with vegetables and salad. Everything was delicious as usual.
And of course, two frothy coffees. Pity we didn't have a drop of whisky too.
Followed by a couple of fruit scones with butter.
The Devonshire Group, that represents the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire (who live just up the road at the stately home, ChatsworthHouse), have now taken over the Peak Shopping Village. We were hoping it might breathe new life into it but not a lot has changed. I'm sure it will get better as I know the rich like getting richer. 😉
