Another mixed bag weatherwise as we called in at 'The Hobb's Cafe' at Monsal Head near Bakewell, Derbyshire. It was teeming it down with rain and thundering and lightning.

It is a family run cafe, and my first impressions were positive. It looked quite cosy apart from a little cold as the front door was constantly open with people coming and going. The area is very popular for hikers so it's the last port of call for a lot of people.

As we queued up, I noticed there was a canine menu for our doggy friends with a variety of chews.

We had to wait about 20 minutes for our main meal, so we thought we'd fill up with a bun first. We had a chocolate cup cake with cream and lemon zest and a blueberry flapjack for starters washed down with a couple of lattes. It doesn't matter which order you have your food as it all goes down the same hole!

Afterwards, we had another coffee as it was really good. This doesn't happen very often. We also ordered one carrot and coriander soup and one mushroom and tarragon soup with a bread roll. It was just perfect for a cold, wet day.

It always makes me laugh when we order two soups. If you are not familiar with comedienne Victoria Wood's famous 'two soups' sketch with the brilliant actress, Julie Walters, then go and check it out on YouTube. It's an old classic.

You could buy a cake stand if you wanted one. They still look old fashioned to me. Something my grandma would have used back in the day. I expect they're trendy now. Everything in life seems to go round in a full circle.

On a better day, you can sit and drink a coffee outside on the benches and look at the lovely views over the dale and the Monsal Trail viaduct. Today was not so good!
