On one fine day when the sun showed a bit, finally after weeks of grey skies, the travel girl strolled down the alley, not too far from her house's stairway. She went east, and unexpectedly stumbled upon the den of the beast. Curious of what's inside the place, she pushed the door open and found her way to the Wolf Den - cool and cozy.
Who would have thought that there's a cozy cafe down the corner of the alley near my place? I thought I had explored my new neighborhood already, but there are actually more interesting places yet to see. The Wolf Den Cafe is just one of them.
Fierce-looking wolves came into sight. But they weren't fierce in my eyes at all. I found them cool and cute. Some were howling, some were growling, but some were literally cute.
An adorable wolf at the counter was waiting for my order. This is a small, self-service cafe. The staff are cordial, the place is neat and organized, the displays are cool, and there are lots of wolf collections.
Even the wines have wolf labels as well. Have you tried drinking any of them? Or are you familiar with these wine brands? Because they aren't to me, lol. They are probably just collections for the cafe's displays.
There are a few collections of cooking books too that customers can read while enjoying their cup of coffee, latte, or tea, and any meal of their choice. I learned that this cafe is an international hamburger shop, but also serves other meals, coffee, and snacks. The family in the picture frame in the photo below is probably the owner of the original Wold Den.
Speaking of the food menu, you can find a variety of delicious burgers, breakfast sets, coffee, tea, latte, salads for vegans, pastas, and even local Chinese noodles here. Prices are definitely reasonable and worth trying. Foods look enticing and delectable. The burgers and breakfast sets are customers favorites. I like the choices of coffee, tea, and lattes. There are cold drinks such as smoothies as well.
I was debating with my mind whether to go for the breakfast set or burgers. At the end, I opted to choose something for brunch, not breakfast. Holidays are my fasting and cheating days. How does it happen? I fast in the morning, then cheat in the afternoon, not minding the food intolerance, lol. That even saves money! Kidding aside. The thing is, I sleep in the morning, then wake up too late nearly noon. That is, when I am not in the mood to travel. That's how I recuperate. And it's definitely the perfect time to cheat and have some sumptuous brunch after long hours of fasting.
The first order to serve was the burger and potato waffles served on a wooden platter that complements the table and interior concept well. This was definitely worth the price! I didn't expect the burger to be that big. It's truly better than those in fast food restaurants and other burger shops I've tried. This was their original chicken steak burger. The potato waffles can be changed to a salad with toast. Since I already had a burger, I didn't go with the toast. But I might try the other set next time. Or maybe their signature beef burger set.
As to the accompaniment, I opted to choose a latte, of course. I never tried espresso or other kinds of coffee, but I chose a different flavor that I haven't tried before. This is a ginger latte, and it's the first shop I know that sells this kind of latte. It's kind of healthier than other lattes. I truly liked the aftertaste of ginger that lingers on my tongue. More ginger flavor was in the bottom of the cup, which I tasted in the very last sip.
It was truly delectable and worth the price. I recommend this place to those looking for unique cafes in Hong Kong. It is located in Mei Foo, where I currently live, just near MTR Exit D station.
The place is just small, with only a few indoor tables, like about five tables with a few seats. So during peak hours, customers have to wait a couple of minutes, or until there are available seats. There are a few tables just outside the cafe for those who prefer to dine outdoors. A man waiting for his takeout vacated the table at the corner, so I was able to enjoy my brunch. I even liked it, as it gave me a better view of the whole cafe space.
They also sell their own made cookies and other desserts. These are perfect after the meal, or for takeout. I was about to buy some cookies for the young lady at home, but I forgot about it, lol. Probably next time.
I'll drop off the chef's details for those currently living in Hong Kong who want to contact him. I actually found this wolf display cute, which is the main reason why I took the photo, hehe.
The Wolf Den, by the way, is just adjacent to Lai Chi Kok Park. So it's perfect to dine here before or after strolling in the park. It is also a beautiful place to explore, which will be shared in a different post one of these days.
The cafe opens from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. So they don't serve dinner and other heavy meals. Just purely for breakfast, lunch, brunch, and snacks. Rest assured that you will love all the food here.
DINING INDOOR OR OUTDOOR?
In response to the current CCOC Prompt, dining indoor or outdoor?
I should say that my preference depends on the cafe's setting and location. For instance, I chose to eat indoors at the Wolf Den Cafe for some reason. One of them is the unique interior design concept. I enjoy seeing pretty and creative interior design everywhere I eat. They pleasing to my eyes and I couldn't take not taking pictures of them. The customer fortunately vacated this table that day, giving me the opportunity to take a photo of the wolf background with the help of the head of staff
Although there were seats outside and the exterior looks lovely and cozy as well, I don't like the fact that the cafe is situated at the compound's corner, right next to the market and facing the highway. I don't like eating my delicious food while breathing in carbon monoxide from the vehicles passing by. Additionally, I dislike watching the market's busy streets and having people stare at me while I'm eating. I couldn't enjoy my food that way.
I like dining outdoor, but with some considerations. If the cafe is located in the middle of the city, as long as it is on the upper floor with a balcony, I would choose to dine in on the open space.
If it is inside a compound and has a veranda or a patio, I would choose the alfresco dining area, especially if it offers a beautiful view.
If it is in the public place and quite crowded, as long as it is facing the sea, beach, or any form of nature, I would go with the outdoor area.
If it has a garden, of course, who doesn't like dining surrounded with green plants and beautiful flowers? I would definitely choose the alfresco dining area.
It all depends on the location of the cafe. But as much as possible, I like dining outdoors with the presence of nature and has fresher air. It make me feel better, relaxed, and enjoy my food more.
What about you? Dine indoor or outdoor?
Thanks for stopping by.
