Canggu occupies a small part of Bali but has been renowned as the hipster place on the island. With a large mixture of people from yoga folks to digital nomads and tourists, the place offers a mixture of eco-living and also modern coffee shop and cafe scenes. The coffee shop and cafe scene offers an interesting look into the Food and Beverages industry where as a coffee lover and perhaps an entrepreneur, their coffee & cafe scene is worth checking out and to learn from. I just landed in Bali about last week and here are the coffee shops that I’ve visited along with the things I learned from them.
Here we go !
Green Spot Cafe
Located just a few minutes from echo beach, this cafe serves selections of healthy vegan bowls and also western breakfast. But, they also serve good coffee that is quite decent. The coffee in this place is basic but really good. Unlike many cafes I visited in the past, many of them can’t do basic lattes but this place does it better. One thing to learn from them is that, even if you serve the basics, make sure it leaves an impression. Another small detail that is worth noting is that they use brown sugar instead of white sugar to serve alongside their coffee.
Coffee Shop Berawa
Another coffee shop I tried that offers a selection of western cuisines but also a wide variety of coffee. This place is decorated in pink and was quite chic at a prime location too. Their service wasn’t really outstanding but good. When it comes to their coffee, it was bold. It wasn’t up to my liking but I like the aesthetic of the cup and the ambience. I have no idea why it’s packed with visitors. In terms of pricing, it was fairly reasonable which is probably why it’s quite packed. I felt a different service from the staff compared to when they deal with foreigners. This is something that I think the staff shouldn’t do. Either way, their coffee, even though it was macchiato, tastes really mediocre. I say that in all honesty and not because they were servicing me differently. One thing to note from cafes in Canggu is that many of them offer 2-5$ coffee which is a bit more expensive than many places in Java and even some other areas in Bali.

Bread Basket
Essentially a cafe with a bakery, like the name suggests, they sell various breads. They have plenty of pies as well that you can choose. But what I recommend is getting their go-to cappuccino with bagel cream & cheese. Though they are not a fast coffee, their go-to warm cup of coffee is perfectly sealed and safe. That was my first time where I never had to worry about my coffee spilling all over the place. They put the coffee inside a paper bag and seled it with duck tape that it’s pretty secure to carry around. Their coffee makes you remember what it’s like to have a very good morning especially paired with their warm bagels. When I found out about them, they are really my go-to morning mood booster. Before going to the bread basket, I tried 7AM which apparently wasn’t as good as the bread basket. I also heard that in Canggu, there are many awesome bakeries but so far, I still can’t move on from the bread basket with their friendly staff, warm bagels and their cappuccino.
Miel
Miel is hands down an overrated but amazingly nice ambience coffee shop. It has a biophilic feel to it and a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel at home. You could spend hours inside the place and won’t feel like you did. Their table is decorated with drip coffee tools but unfortunately, their coffee is just mediocre at a crazy price. One thing that was impressive was the place. However, miel is also the cafe that makes me feel like every coffee shop in Bali is quite identical and it’s easy to get bored of them.
Conclusion
There are so many coffee shops around Canggu that it would take approximately more than a few months to finish them all. However, many of them are similar in terms of style. Some differ because they offer co-working spaces and also a working environment friendly as many digital nomads are around the area. But overall, even after visiting a few places, I already feel bored because they all look identical and also serves similar coffee with similar taste.
