If this one is not a hidden gem coffee shop in Chiang Mai, I don't know what it is.
A few weeks ago, a friend initiated the idea of a day of cafe hopping (not sure if you heard of that. I thought it's a thing but a friend told me, 'it's just a Thai thing' #lol) and there we went. Now for those who have never heard of 'cafe hopping' - The idea was to go to a few coffee shops in a day but turns out, we spent hours at this place and didn't go to the other places we were planning to go. It's that nice here and you can really spend time without getting bored, Baannok khong Chika.
To get here, it's quite a ride. 40++ mins from Chiang Mai city getting into this area which I would confidentally call 'middle of nowhere' area. Surrounded by rice field and all the greens in a little rural area of Chiang Mai. I seriously didn't expect anything more than just a chill coffee shop with a good view but wasn't I wrong.
When getting to the place, it's a big old-school house decorated cutely with one side of the walls full of coffee bean bags. The owner welcome us warmly and started to introduce us to all things we could possibly do around here.
First thing first, coffee! We could order a regular cup of coffee or go for this drip coffee which it seems almost like a workshop for me even. She laid out a few types of coffee for us to choose. She explained all the types, the regions, the roast, taste notes and etc. We ended up picking 2 types of them and then the tutorial began...
Scale to have the right amount of coffee, water and so on. The water gotta be that 91 degree celcius. How you wash the coffee ground one time first.. let it sit for a bit before start pouring some more exact tempuratured water through.. Then the coffee served in small ceramic cups so we all could try some. The next round, some of us even got to try the dripping ourselves so that was pretty fun.
It's not just the coffee but the process before we gotta try a cup that made me like the place.
Besides great cups of coffee, Baannok Khong Chika also offers homemade bakery that they make fresh every other days. I tried a few types of brownies. Very rich! with such cute packaging.
Another thing I have to mention is their homemade pizza! Super thin crust, you have no idea! With some good cheese and the taste of Thai homemade pizza (not bad of a taste. it's actually yum!).
Done with coffee, food, dessert (which by the way they also have boba tea! whaaa) -- The vibe is good, real chill. Quiet and peaceful. So much greens with many seating areas to choose from. To stay and enjoy a day with your current book you read would also be ideal.
Love everything about this place except for how long it takes to get here so I would totally recommend the place to the coffee lovers out there!
