There is this common saying that 'Opportunity lost can never be regained. I disagree with that, I believe opportunity lost can still be regained.
Nevertheless, there are some circumstances in life when it may take a while for an opportunity to present itself again.
It's possible that an opportunity won't always present itself as it is supposed to.
If someone genuinely and urgently wants to, lost opportunities can be restored, reinvented, and made better, someone only needs to put more effort into it and stay away from distractions.
Throwback To My Lost Opportunity
A few years ago, after I graduated from university, my close friends didn't start looking for work. Three of my close pals advised me that we should pursue our master's degrees. After that, we will continue to process our professional exam and enrol in the Nigerian Society of Civil Engineering.
The suggestion was sound, but I wasn't able to enrol in my master's program at the time. I can't bother my parents again because they gave everything they had to me. I was expected to pay for my remaining education.
My friends have their parents' support, they gave them money to further their education.
However, I wasn't happy because I had intended to continue right after my youth service year. I had planned to save money throughout my National Youth Service, but I was unable to do so. The mission was thus abandoned.
The earlier you further your education, the faster you will become a registered Engineer.
In Nigeria, there are several advantages and prestige associated with being a registered engineer. You'll get a lot of major projects and make more money. Being a registered engineer is important.
My friends continued their studies, and they finished after two years.
During this time, I didn't let that affect me. I know that I missed the opportunity to be registered early, so I chased the experience aspect.
I started searching for jobs in a prestigious Engineering firm. I travelled to the city of Lagos ( Nigeria) to seek big job opportunities.
Fortunately for me, I was employed in a big firm, and I was given a chance to learn from my senior colleagues.
Within a few months, I was given a project to handle.
They didn't see me as a young graduate, they love my contribution to the company and they gave me big opportunities.
Even though I was happy for them when they registered, I reflect on the fact that I would have become a registered Engineer if I had joined them when they first began. My friends finished their master's degrees in 2017, and they began processing their professional exams. They passed their exams and were registered in 2019.
How I Was Able To Regain Lost Opportunity
I was able to console myself that I can still regain the lost opportunity. I used their wins as motivation for myself. I enrolled for my master's that year and I graduated in the year 2021. I have passed my professional exam late last year.
I will continue with my registration processing and I will soon be registered.
I was able to regain my lost opportunity with determination. I think the reason why people don't regain their lost opportunity it's because they turn it into regret.
Once you regret your actions and you always dwell on the past you can't regain lost opportunities.
The past cannot be changed by focusing on it. It's crucial to concentrate on the now and future instead. Consider what you can do right away to create the chance you previously missed.
