I as well believe we should be more humane with the things we do, why do we harass, bully, and embarrass a fellow human. What do we stand to gain from it? As we dish it out, can we take it too? What if tables turn?

Either online or offline, it shouldn't be taken with levity anymore. Just like the instance you cited, such people shouldn't be allowed to go scot-free without holding them accountable or facing the law.
We really need to do better.
