It’s 2023 guys, happy happy new year.
1st January 2023 was actually my first time I was awake before the clock struck 12. Usually by 12am when we’re about entering the new year I’m already asleep but this time around I was awake.
I got to see fireworks at 12am which was quite nice. It was noisy but was also nice.😅
So few hours after 12am I slept and woke up around 7-8am. I had no plans to do anything during the day so I was just indoors watching movies and texting.
I’m currently in Accra for vacation with my aunty and so she suggested we drive around the streets of Accra and see how the city looks in the evening during the festive periods.
So my cousins, my aunt, my brother and I got dressed and set out.
The 37 circle.
The main objective of this drive was to go to Osu for sight seeing but we first made it to the black star square.
This is what the black star square looks like during the day
Due to the lights and my bad photography skills, I got this very bad shot of the black star square.
Still at the black star square.
Upon arrival we spent about 5 minutes before we were told since it’s late, people are not allowed to be there. I don’t know if it’s a regular thing or if it was booked for an event. 🤷🏾♂️
Same thing happened when we went to the independence arch just adjacent to the black star square. It takes less than 2 minutes to drive from the black start square to the independence arch. We were told it was late and so we should come back during the day. Funny thing is we saw others taking pictures there but we weren’t allowed to.
At the independence arch referred road “freedom and justice” by some people.
We then left there and proceeded to Osu. The environment was filled with the Christmas vibe or Christmas spirit. It felt like Christmas wasn’t over.
I stay in Tamale which is mostly comprised of Muslims which means we don’t get to see scenes like these during the festivities so this was quite a sight to behold.
One thing I love about Christmas is the decorations it comes with which makes everything looks more colorful, decorative and beautiful. I wrote about my love for Christmas decorations in response to the challenge by the community few weeks ago What I Love About Christmas.
We finally made it to Osu and it was a very lovely scene. We parked and made it to the Danquah Circle which was beautifully decorated.
We were not the only ones there as it turns out a lot more people like the beautiful scenes. The place was packed with people.
We took a few pictures there. Cos it was dark and with interference from the other lights, the pictures weren’t very clear.
The family.
This is me.
We left the Danquah circle and headed toward where we parked our car.
Streets of Osu.
It was almost 11pm by the time we were done with our sight seeing and so we headed home. We stopped for icecream and then went home.
I had a lot of fun with my family just driving through the streets of Osu and enjoying the view.
Thank you.
