In last week's #wednesdaywalk post I started with some photos of the Howick Falls in Howick. Then, the following morning I took some photos of the sun rising over Umhlanga Rocks beach and I ended on Warner Beach.
Those photos have been taken during wintertime before we went into lockdown.
I started digging into my photos and decided to share similar photos today.
Today's photos were all taken on the same day. We made an outing of the whole day. These photos were taken early last year during midsummer...shortly before we went into lockdown.
If you compare these photos of today with those of last week, you'll notice the difference in the scenery during our winter time versus summer time.
Down here at the coast, where we live, it remains green all year long.
During the summer months, the green just becomes deeper and even more beautiful. As I've heard a guy saying the other day... "down here you can't even dare to forget the broom outside overnight. Because by the time you go out again in the morning it would have started growing"...lol.
But as you move more inland, it becomes drier during the winter season and everything becomes brown. Totally different from what many of you might experience where it becomes white during the winter months...lol.
Anyhow, let's get to the photos.
We started the morning down on the beach in Winkle Spruit.
I focused mainly on these rocks.
The next photo I took from a slightly different angle and I tried to include the rock closer to me in the foreground as well.
We spent quite some time there during the morning, and as it cleared up later, I got this clear shot of these rocks a little higher up on the beach.
We then left and decided to take a drive up to the Midlands Meander.
The Midlands Meander is also a very popular holiday destination. It is a countryside area with many farmstalls, fleamarkets, guesthouses, and other holiday accommodation. It is about a 100 KM drive from Durban and can be found towards the bottom end of the Drakensberg.
If you look at these photos of today, you'll see the typical colorful scenery that welcomes you during the summer months. If you look at the photos I shared of the Howick Falls last week, you'll clearly see the difference, noticing how everything turns brown during the winter months.
Just after Pietermaritzburg, we turned off to take the scenic route.
Along this route, we found this little stream.
We then did a tour of the Midlands Meander route by car and finally got back to the highway heading back home. Still, in the Midlands area, we decided to still make another stop in Howick and enjoy another walk at the Howick Falls.
These are the photos you can compare with those of last week, as they were taken at the same place, only this time, it was summer.
I first took this photo of the falls.
Then I took this photo, trying to get more emphasis on the falls.
From there, we headed back home again. A nice, full-day round-trip.
And that's it for today.
Thank you for reading my post. I do appreciate it!
