When you are lazy like me and it's the middle of summer, your last wish is to go outside, drive a car, or have a walk in the middle of a foreign town, almost at noon... When the sun has no mercy on anyone... :) On the other side, at these times, I try to do my daily walks or early in the morning, or late in the evening...
As I'm currently in the Eastern Europe, and not on the seaside, mornings and nights are much colder than in Spain... As a matter of fact, another day I had an idea to wear a jersey in the morning as it was chilly... But, as soon as the sun comes out, it becomes hot...
But, this day was different... I didn't go for my early walk, but instead, we (wife, son, and me) went for a short trip to Hungary... As I probably wouldn't do it without the reason, I had to go as we had to do some paperwork for my son... The idea was to go early and avoid daytime heat and we left our home around 7 AM, but...
The idea was good, but the realization was bad... :) I think that you know what happened when we arrived at the government office, as bureaucracy is the same all around the world... We had to wait almost 2 hours for our turn... We split and my son and I went to the town center for a short walk...
The town where we were is named Baja... It's situated on the river Danube and it's famous for its fish stew like many other towns in that region, including my hometown... In general, that part of Hungary isn't "representative" as it was most of the time a "poorer" part of the "Empire", but still, the town has its charm as you can see from the photos...
As every other town, it has its church and in this case, you can see two different churches... One is located at the beginning of the main street (Franciscan Friary), and the other one is visible at the bottom... If I paid more attention, maybe I could catch both in the same photo, but it would be hard to achieve from the "pedestrian view"...
This photo is taken from the beginning of the street and knowing that the end is where you can spot the church, you get the point that it's not a long main street... :) Close to the church, there is a tourist train that can drive you around the town and show all the beauties with comments from the "engine driver"... :)
Parallel streets are wider as the majority of the traffic goes through them... On the side of the busy street, I spotted a charming small park and you know that I like parks as I have already written about one a month ago...
The guy who gifted this park to the town got his own sculpture at the bottom among beautiful green grass and red flowers... As every park, it has a small part where the children's playground is situated that I have missed photographing... :)
On my way back to the car, I noticed two more sculptures of important people from the town and to the town... One was István Türr, a Hungarian soldier, canal architect, and engineer, that was known as a person who unified people in Hungary and later in his life was known as a big pacifist...
Another sculpture represents Gajdócsi István, who was a town representative and the regional parliament representative... He played a big role in the regional cultural and artistic life as he was strongly supporting it...
Thank you for your valuable time,
ph
