Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
This piece was from another stream charity event I participated in earlier this year. A group of streamers volunteered to do charity streams for Children's Cancer Foundation here in Singapore! It was in conjunction with their annual Hair for Hope Event where people can volunteer to shave their heads to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer.
I was initially on the fence about this event tbh but my community voted that we go for it so I rushed to do some planning for a special 12 hour stream!
I kept it simple since I didn't have much time to prepare but I wanted to at least give the donors something for contributing to the cause.
More importantly I wanted to get an art piece done so I could put the donors' names on it as an acknowledgement and to thank them for donating!
I wanted a theme for the artwork and since this event was to raise awareness for Children's Cancer and is also tied to their Hair for Hope campaign, I thought a barbershop would be appropriate. Initially I thought a barbershop style retro poster would be cool, but then realised since I was going to be doing stickers that a window would be better.
These were the references I used:
I also had to make sure there was enough blank space to put all the stickers in, so I couldn't fill up the space too much. The main things I really wanted was the classic barbershop swirly light next to the door, and the barber chair.
Here's the sketch I came up with:
I thought it would look a little plain since the window was going to be quite dark so I added flowers in the front since this was for Children's Cancer after all.
After that it was time to colour! I thought the colour scheme from the reference photos was quite nice so I went off that and made it brighter.
For the chairs I didn't go into too much detail since they were going to be in the background anyway.I just did enough to make them recognisable.
After colouring in the flowers, adding some shelves in the back and the tint in the window, we got our base where the stickers would go!
For the stickers themselves I thought of drawing cats with different hairstyles, sort of like you're reusing the shaved hair from the HFH to make hats for cats?

I've seen pictures of people who use cat hair to fashion hair styles or hair hats for their cats so it inspired me. Initially I wanted to have different cat positions and fit hair styles to specific poses but it didn't really work out how I thought.
So I ended up just finding references for the hairstyles and the cat heads instead to use as a template and it was a lot neater.
The donor would choose which cat they would like and which hairstyle to pair with it, and they could also change the colours if they wished.
The stickers turned out quite cute! Those who donated at least $20 would receive this exclusive sticker from me that I would draw on stream. Here are some of them:
As an exclusive treat I thought I'd include some dogs as well for the biggest donor since she donated a lot and there would be a lot of repeats.
Here are some of the dog stickers I did for her:
I compiled all the stickers I did and also put in the names of those who donated into the barbershop art piece and after 18.5 hours of stream time, we ended up with this!
It was an insane stream and I was clearly not prepared for how much support there was going to be, judging by how low my incentives were. But then again I don't want to expect too much from my community. Either way, I was super thankful to everyone for their support, monetary or otherwise. I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves and we managed to get quite a sum to donated as well! I think the art turned out really nice too!
Here's a link to my instagram post if you want to see the timelapse.
Overall I thought this event was such a success! I'm so thankful for everyone who came out to the stream. I even made a lot of nice fellow streamer friends who participated during this event too and to me that's priceless.
