What I have today is a fanart from the time-limited event story from the game Time Princess. It is a story titled Flourish of Flamenco where a girl lost sight of her dreams.
I made this fanart because it somehow represented how I actually feel about myself recently. I relate so much to the story and was touched as well.
Story context:
A teenage girl named Carmen once had a dream when she was a child. She wanted to be a flamenco dancer. But the person closest to her, her mother, wanted her to pursue a different dream in the field of medicine. Everything they do had a schedule, what to eat depends on days, as well as the color she has to wear. The only time she can dance flamenco is after school in a room where there's no one. She refers to this time as a self-study time for her excuse.
One day, her mother had to go somewhere due to work and her grandmother took over to take care of her. Carmen had a mixed feelings about this because she can finally dance freely without worrying she would get caught and also things might get messy.
As she expected, she was embarrassed by how clingy her grandmother is at school and she was being teased by her bully. Things changed because Carmen's grandmother took care of the bully and Carmen see her grandmother as someone cool. Her grandmother did everything she can to help her pursue Flamenco. Grandmother even sold her pearl necklace to buy Carmen a beautiful red dress for her dance competition.
The unexpected happen and they got into an accident. Carmen's grandmother died and she lost her sight. She also lost sight of her dreams.
Carmen then experienced a dream-like event where she met people who possesses different type of bravery and passion. She even met her grandmother which helped her realize what she loves.
The story ended with Carmen pursuing her passion and dancing Flamenco even without her sight. Her mother also finally let her do what she loves.
It turns out that her mother experienced the same with her grandmother. Her mother wanted to be a doctor but her grandmother wanted for her mother to run their estate. Her grandmother later on realizes what she had done and have always looked out on Carmen and her mother by going to their town. Her grandmother tried to correct their mistake by helping Carmen do what she loves.
There's more to the story specially Carmen's dream-like experience. But as for the main point, it would actually be nice if we had someone like Carmen's grandmother. Someone who would help us pursue our dreams and someone who would fight by our side. Sometimes we would lost sight of what we truly love but all we needed is someone to help us realize it.
Going back to the fanart here is how I made it. It is different to how I usually do my works but won't hurt to try something different. I actually started this before my Amber Animated Fanart but I felt like I couldn't finish the piece. Luckily I did get to finish it and it was satisfying even though it doesn't look the same as the characters. But whatevs XD It's the thought that counts.
Sketch:
Since this is technically the first time I draw after my hiatus, I did not care much about the details or how they actually look. I'm only used to drawing anime characters so this was a different experience.
Line Art:
Base Color:
Lighting and Shading:
I was actually halfway done when I realized that the color of my pen tab is purple-ish than my actual screen. This is where I stopped drawing because I felt down. Later on I thought that the color wasn't actually bad and I could just overlay it if I wanted to. I also erased and blur the line arts to give more depth.
Background:
Most fun part for this piece because it was easy and satisfying. I just filled the wall with colors, throw lines, squares, and circles to resemble the room. After that I just applied gaussian blur and boom, a decent-ish background.
Finishing touch:
Lastly, since I wanted to blend the character and the background a bit, I tried the art trend I saw on the internet. It was using airbrush then painting first a blue shade and on top of it is a red shade. Then just apply overlay and the image below is the result. Now it has a lot more aura than the previous one. Then I used decoration tool: Flower pattern.
References:
Since I can't find any links for reference, the image below are screenshots from the game.

Background:
Almost tear up while recalling the story. I really love the grandmaš¤§.
This fanart is outside of my style so I'm glad that I tried and finished it.
Note: Time Princess is a dress up with different story books to dress up for.
