Today marks my very first entry in this community, and I must say, I’m excited to be here. The question before us, Do we work to live or live to work?, feels like a debate between Work and Life themselves.
If you listen closely,
Work says:
"Without me, you cannot eat, dream, or even sleep in comfort. I put food on your table, I pay the bills, I buy the clothes you wear. Without me, survival becomes difficult."
But then Life replies:
"Dear Work, I agree you are important, but you exist because of me. If there is no Life, who will work? I bring joy, laughter, family, health, and meaning. Without me, you are just an endless cycle of tasks with no purpose."
Personally, I do different types of work, from designing, to helping my fellow colleagues in school with their projects, and even farming. Each of these keeps me engaged and productive, but I see them as a way to support life, not replace it.
This screenshot was from my WhatsApp status yesterday as I was trying to express myself on how our lecturers do send us back to have our work fixed properly
Designing allows me to express creativity, supporting my colleagues gives me fulfillment, and farming connects me to nature and provision. Yet, none of these should overshadow the beauty of simply living.
That’s why I believe we work to live. Work should be a tool that sustains us, not the master that defines us.
A healthy balance allows Work and Life to walk hand in hand: Work provides stability, while Life provides meaning. But when Work takes the driver’s seat and Life is forced into the backseat, imbalance sets in. So, I choose to work to live. Work should serve Life, not the other way around.
I also want to invite to join the community and share his perspective on this thought, provoking topic. Thank y'all for this amazing community to express ourselves better and be realistic about life.
