Flora and Fauna. What an interesting concept to explore when speaking of the deep. With over 90% of the planet's ocean remaining unexplored, one can imagine what actually lives there.
We know that the floor bed is not flat. Think of it in terms of topside mountains and valleys. The same is believed to exist in the deep sea due to the shift in tectonic plates. 1
But why does so much of the ocean remains unexplored? The answer lies in the fact that
One of the biggest challenges of ocean exploration can be explained through physics. Dr. Gene Carl Feldman, an oceanographer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, states that the ocean, at great depths, is characterized by zero visibility, extremely cold temperatures, and crushing amounts of pressure.
He goes on to say that “in some ways, it’s a lot easier to send people into space than it is to send people to the bottom of the ocean. The intense pressures in the deep ocean make it an extremely difficult environment to explore.”
Oceana also explains that, although you don’t notice it, the pressure of the air pushing down on your body at sea level is about 15 pounds per square inch. If you went up into space, above the Earth’s atmosphere, the pressure would decrease to zero. However, if you were to go diving or take a ride in an underwater vehicle, those forces would start to stack up the farther down you descend.
“On a dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, which is nearly 7 miles deep, you’re talking about over 1,000 times more pressure than at the surface,” Feldman stated. “That’s the equivalent of the weight of 50 jumbo jets pressing on your body.”
Human-manned submersibles are one way to explore. Satellite is another. However, the Oceana states that worldwide, agencies are unwilling to fund explorations where so much is still unknown.

In the post, [nftshowroom X alienarthive challenge for April: nftshowroom X alienarthive challenge for April: Flora & Fauna, NFTShowroom has featured all the month's flora and fauna themed Art minted so far on the NFT Showroom's home page / twitter. Also, Alien Art Hive will be curating participants' blog posts. This challenge was intended for the full month of April. Participants are required to:
- make art incorporating any flora and fauna theme;
- mint it on https://nftshowroom.com/;
- make a blog post about it in Alien Art Hive; and
- use #nftshowroom in your tags
Below are my steps I took to create my second design for this theme.

My Creation Process:
My inspiration in creating this "flora and fauna" scene was derived from the fact that I read years ago that the deep sea was vastly yet unexplored. I discovered several unusual images that I felt served to populate that deep abyss.
Since this depth is largely unexplored, I could imagine all types of creatures that dwell there. I called upon StarryAI, the stable diffusion program, to provide me with the hybrid human-like images. All meshed to create a magical underwater world.
Creating the abyss seabed was interesting. Since mountains and valleys actually exist underwater, I wanted to include those. Can you imagine the marine life residing in those mountains and valleys!
My still version is shown here utilizing the stable diffusion and other images that I uploaded into Canva, my design program. I then added layers of elements.
All images included are listed below.
