So first some prints with statements from this guy.
I see this line of argument more and more, look at those "poor" bastards, they're missing on human values, they feel miserable, and so it must mean that being super-rich is inherently a bad idea.
If SOME billionaires don't know how to use their wealth -both personally and creatively, that doesn't make money evil per se. It just means that for some, their ability to accrue wealth got somehow ahead of their ability to stay sane and use wealth for good.
Being super-rich is not bad if you know how to use it, because you can always find bigger problems to solve. And since humanity has plenty of problems, being rich might mean that you have enough leverage to tackle some of those global problems.
If there are people who become rich just for the sake of having more, or that can not see a higher purpose beyond money - that's their loss.
There is no bigger pain than lacking a purpose, but that doesn't mean there is no purpose if you are rich -it just means that some people stop too early. Money is just a means to an end, and some of these billionaires need to remember that.
Throughout time, many famous but unhappy people advanced the same line of argument -oh poor me, being famous sucks.
Those are just people that don't know how to manage a powerful gift and if faced with being broke again they would quickly realize that being a nobody is a lot worse than being somebody. When it comes to money, power, or influence, problems of abundance are always better to have than problems of scarcity.
What's even more, you have someone like Will Smith who openly admits being very happy while being rich and famous.
Also a second line of argument is that the super-rich don't have to respect any rules so therefore don't act moral because of lack of accountability.
There are plenty of people that choose to do the right thing -without needing social pressure, or fear as a guide to moral behavior.
Money, power, or fame is as good or as bad as the mindset that one holds, poor souls are never going to be rich.
