Hi Readers
I hope you all have had a great week and are planning an even better weekend. Still busy on a garden book with no guidance from the client, so I am slowly plodding on.
This weekend is going to be so busy with parties and work, I'm not sure if I will have time for writing, but here's hoping!
I hope you all enjoy this next update, as the characters make plans to save Saita from her current fate.
Bolx felt sick. He has never dealt well under anaesthesia, even as a child, and he was still vomiting hours after his surgery. Every part of his body hurt but he could get no rest. His sister was sitting with Seana close by watching him like a hawk, likely on their mother’s orders. Saasha’s mother, Aurus was also close by, she had been making him eat and drink periodically. She was of no relation to the triplets, but she had always felt responsible for them as she had adopted their older sister.
“Drink.” Repeated Siar as she pointed to a glass of water next to the bed.
“It is just going to come straight up again.” Bolx lay back and groaned. “My head is killing me.”
“You are dehydrated and need to drink.” Said Aurus, not looking up from her knitting.
“What’s this for then?” Bolx demanded of the ceiling, because that was where he was looking, as he raised his right hand to show the drip.
“To prevent you from being dangerously dehydrated.”
“Either you drink and try to flush your system, or you are going to vomit foam like when we were kids. Remember? Foamy bile that made your breath stink and you half choke.” Said Siar with a malicious grin.
That made Bolx sit up and vomit into the container into his lap again.
“Drink some water.” Reminded Aurus.
She then held up the orange square. “This is the right colour you wanted right?”
“Yes! Her father loved orange and I want her to have a small part of him. Baby blankets can always be reused and inherited. Thank you, Mother.”
Aurus grinned at the title and continued with her knitting. Once Bolx had gotten his breath back he managed to drink a little more and this time it stayed down. He desperately needed to sleep but his left arm ached, and he was too worried about Saita. He was too scared to ask about her condition and the women in the room with him were too afraid to give him the answer he feared.
Saita was going to die.
He should have remained at her side, but he had thought her mother needed his help. By the time he realised that she had been in serious danger it was far too late, and the Dekai had entered the fray. He couldn’t even look as she had been taken away to be treated. There had been so much blood. He had been at war for most of his adult life, but he could never forget the look on her face as she had told her mother she still loved her. The look of peace and not feeling any more pain. A sign of resignation of what was coming. He swallowed back his tears and lay back down. He had thought, for a few precious hours, that he would be able to have a normal life again and it had been taken away from him.
No one told him that it would be alright because they knew that she was too badly injured and there was very little they could do for her further. He was on the verge of falling asleep when there was a knock on the door.
“Is he awake?” came a voice.
Wearily Bolx opened his eyes and mumbled. “Barely.”
He rolled his head to see Doran standing in the doorway. He looked uninjured but exhausted and pale.
“There may be a way to help Saita, but it is going to need you and me to convince her to do something so terrible that she may never forgive us for.”
“I’ll take the risk.” The large man sat up and had to cling at an aching head. “What do I have to do?”
Doran entered the room and started explaining what had been said in the meeting. The more he spoke the more Bolx wanted to retract his offer. She had been through so much already and to force this decision on her may very well cause her to hate them.
“What of her family?” asked Bolx.
“Sash is barring them from seeing her until they make it official that she is no longer banished. Lord Pura may have used the word privately when talking to her but that isn’t official and until such time it is, she doesn’t have family.”
“Then how do you play into this.”
“Boy, at this point I no longer care. I am willing to do what I can to save her from this fate. Pura is welcome to try at take my head. Are you well enough to get up?”
“Not really.” Said Siar as she got up. “And I doubt Saita will be in any condition to speak to the two of you. I saw her myself earlier. She has a pipe down her throat; she won’t be speaking to anyone.”
“She doesn’t need to speak; she just needs to listen.” Doran shook his head. “I do not know if I will be able to bring her back by myself. It wasn’t only her parents that had harsh words for her. I need Bolx’s help.”
“Let me brother rest till morning. Saita’s condition isn’t going to get better or worse with a few hours respite. You yourself look like you need a few hours of sleep. Come. We will find you a room where you can get undisturbed rest. I will not take no for an answer.”
She then turned to Aurus. “Could you?”
“Give me that little smoosh face so that I can love her!” Aurus happily put her knitting in the basket to take the baby from Siar.
“Let’s go Master Doran.”
Jethron had completed talking to his wife and his children, explaining the situation that he found himself in. His children, all grown up with their own children, except Amara, immediately turned to their mother to see her reaction. The old warrior who was known for her wicked curved axe she still carried with her everywhere looked distraught at the news that Jethron had given her.
“Husband, do you believe that this will save us, or do I need to take up my axe to get another mate?”
“Wife, I believe the girl may be deeply tied with all our fates.”
“You did not answer my question.”
“You will not have need to pick up your axe.” He lied to her. “By tomorrow you will have a sister in arms and the children a new aunt.”
“I will believe your words Husband but know that I am worried and upset with you. The axe is back.”
“Of course, My Love.” He said with a smile.
He had ended the communication there and went to prepare himself for what was needed the next day. Sash had begged him to give Saita enough time to be weaned from the chemicals that kept her unconscious before they tried this dangerous stunt. He was tying his life to Saita’s with this ritual. Whatever happened to Saita now would be his fate.
It should have been my fate millennia ago.
“Well now it is my burden to carry. My son is ready for the throne so I am not worried about my kingdom, but I do not know if the girl will want this.”
Bring her son.
“There is no time for that.”
Bolx can teleport. Let him get the boy. They share blood. His blood will call to her, giving her the strength she needs to pull through. You and your brother were used in the aid of Saasha’s healing this way.
Jethron took a deep breath and sat down on the floor. Before him was a small knife. It was sharp and would do what was needed. He muttered a few words over it before running the edge across the back of his hand. A thin line of blood appeared which he ran the two flat edges of the knife against until it was completely coated. He muttered a few more words and the steel turned black. The first part of the ritual was now complete.
“The rest is up to the two of you.” He muttered as he carefully sheathed the blade.
We are yet to meet Jethron's extensive family, so be prepared for a family tree to be added to the list of characters real soon. That's it for this week, I hope you all enjoyed the update as I did writing it. I'll add the next update on Tuesday! See you then!
