Greetings all!
I hope your week hasn't been too crazy, as mine has been. Don't too much to report. Cupcake is still with us, I get a few days off, so many I can get some writing done! But I guess we'll see.
Anyway, before you read today's update, be sure to read 's update, which you can find here.
I hope you enjoy the update!
“Oh, what now?” muttered Sebastian as he looked toward the trees.
Magna watched him deflate a little as Bellatrix placed her helm back onto her head and faced the same direction. Derric had the hackles raised on his neck and he was growling.
Don’t like this.
“What is that?” asked Adrian.
Magna looked around and seemed almost confused for a second. Her head frantically swivelled from one person gathered to the next. She leapt to her feet and hissed, “Uncle Adiran.”
“But he was right here…” Sebastian started saying.
But as he tried to point out the mage, it was clear the old man had vanished.
“Derric, go see what that is.” Commanded Magna.
She then looked at her uncle and he didn’t hesitate for a second to allow his form to change into a more bestial appearance to run after the wolf.
“Magna!” said Adrian sharply.
“We share his hunger, it’s not so bad.” She said stiffly.
Adrian looked up at Bellatrix and the woman slightly shook her head. She wasn’t ready to be ordered around quite yet.
“We were meant to make camp.” Said Mortis as he joined the party. “Where is your uncle and why are Derric and Sebastian leaving camp?”
“That magical blast from the trees, it was Uncle Adiran, I’m sure of it.” Said Magna.
She tried to push past the revenant, but Mortis gripped her collar tightly, causing the young woman’s feet to fly out from under her. She tried to round her newly developed anger onto Mortis, but instead, he dragged her into a kneeling position and knelt before her. Not a word was spoken as the two of them looked at each other.
“We should clear the camp.” Said Leopold to Trix.
The skull helm looked at the human and nodded her head, “Indeed, your companion and I will follow the wolves and leave the chore to you and the prince.”
Leopold was monetarily baffled, but a snort laugh from Anna made him blush when he realised what he was trying to order the Lifedrinker to do.
“Of course, my apologies.” He bowed and immediately started breaking up the camp.
Trix turned to Adrian, who raised his hands and said, “I have an older sister, I know how this goes.”
He then went to help Leopold.
Anna looked at the skull helm and grinned behind her visor, “So, I assume Trix is then short for Bellatrix.”
“Indeed?” the skull nodded.
“Well then she-warrior, let’s mount up.”
Derric still had a grudge against Sebastian because of what he had tried to do to Daisy. However, as the humanoid creature almost effortlessly seemed to keep up with him as he ran, he could feel some respect for him.
“Hey, you.” The half-beast-half man growled as he ran on all fours.
Derric.
“Derric, you and my niece?”
Derric could feel the corners of his mouth turn up in a grin.
Sebastian didn’t need more than that from the wolf as the two hit the trees. They didn’t have far to travel, mostly because it felt as if the two of them hit a stone wall. Sebastian was thrown out of his transformation and lay coughing for a minute, while Derric groggily sat on his haunches. The forest prince looked up and saw Adiran waving his arms around and muttering a spell that Derric had never heard before.
Adiran?
The mage didn’t acknowledge the wolf as he continued to mutter his spell. Derric knew it wasn’t worth trying to get beyond the barrier that had been erected, and so he sat waiting patiently. Eventually, Sebastian came to stand at the barrier and test it.
“Well, I don’t have any powers that can break through this. What about you?” he looked down at Derric.
I could become a dragon.
“Don’t you dare!” roared Adiran from within the barrier.
Explain yourself.
Adiran continued to draw complex symbols in the air as he muttered and shouted spells. As he continued, Derric couldn’t help but notice tears running down his cheeks.
Adiran?
The mage held a hand up and continued with his spells, not saying a word to either the creatures beyond his barrier. Sebastian, annoyed with the situation, sat down beside the wolf and muttered under his breath how much he hated magic.
It all came to a head when Adiran fired another purple blast from the trees. He collapsed to the ground, panting, and the barrier finally gave way. However, the wolf and Lifedrinker remained where they are.
“Rhys isn’t with him.” Muttered the mage as he sat back. “I am sure of it. Going to him now will destroy everything I have worked so hard for.”
The mage got to his feet, looked around him, and then up at the two waiting for him.
“I am sorry, but you will have to continue the journey to find Rhys without me for a time.”
“We barely got started!” said Sebastian in frustration as he got to his feet.
Adiran threw a pouch at the man and said, “Give that to Adrian. Only he should touch the stone within. He will direct you now.”
Is it an enemy you seek to face?
Adiran nodded his head.
And you do so with no allies?
Adiran sighed and said, “None of you are ready to face him. I need to buy you time.”
The old man then grinned and added, “And I am not alone. The magic just takes a while to wake up.”
The floor below the pair started to rumble and vast roots were pulled from the soil as several trees started to merge with the ground and rocks to create what could only be described as a giant.
The giant offered Adiran a hand and the mage got onto it. As the giant lifted him, he turned to Sebastian and said, “When I am from, you were the one to teach my sister and me swordplay. Use this opportunity to teach them.”
“You sound like you’re not coming back.” Accused Sebastian.
“Give the stone to Adrian, find Rhys. Breaking your curse will help the land.”
Well now, , how will you play this? I'm eager to find out!.
