My love affair with Burgundy continues. This time with a 2016 regional wine of Les Riaux made by the Fagot family, who have been making wine sine the mid 1800's! This is why France, or the old world for that matter takes their wine seriously. This is something they take much pride it, and even with wines that are inexpensive. Here in California it is hard to find great wines that are cheap. Over there it is common place to find great wine cheap. Don't get me wrong, plenty of the wine family's here in the New World take their wine seriously, just as much as anywhere else. But it is more common place in the States to see marketers make the wine, VS the wine maker. These wines made by the marketing team are same year after year, because they have a formula, and that is making $$ But with wines made by the wine maker, their formula is to make great wine, and the goal is to let the Terror shine through their creation.
With a 1 hour decant, this was another Red Burgundy that was a home run. I actually had this same exact wine, but from the 2014 vintage not to long ago, you can view that post here. May I add the 2014 blew my mind, it was so good! So how was the 2016? Another killer wine, but I bet would be even better with 2 more years of rest. What got my attention was the deep red color on this Pinot Noir. A lot darker then the other Pinots I have had lately. This is a serious wine, and at a great value! One that I will be picking more up soon, CHEERS!
