Pahela Falgun
Pahela Falgun is the first day of spring and 11th month in the Bengali calendar. To celebrate the day various types of festivals take place all over the places. February 13th being the day of Pahela Falgun and the 14th as Valentine's Day. However, both days are being celebrated on 14 February.
After the dryness of winter, new leaves start to come out again and the nature reconnects with new colorful flowers such as shimul & polash.
People are welcoming the season with a myriad of flowers, poems, songs and dances. The season spreads through the next month, Chaitra, the last month of Bengali year.
On this day traditional outfits are worn such as Saree for girls and Panjabi for the boys . For the first day of Spring, the Pohela Falgun, of course yellow is the colour of choice which will please the eyes of the onlookers.
The youngsters are also gathering at Teacher-Student Centre, Arts Faculty, Curzon Hall, wearing dazzling dresses to express love to each other exchanging flowers and gifts.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organise a special cultural event on Nandan Mancha at 4pm. The event will feature musical performances, recitations, dancing . Television channels, social media platforms and Facebook content creators are also seen to post special content to entertain their fans on this festive day. Dramas are really famous in Bangladesh . Bangladeshi dramas are also released for this special day.
For this special day various restaurants almost everywhere in the country have arranged special offers for the customers. Also different gift shops and flower shops are hoping to make extra sales with discounted offers. Flower markets are busy stocking red roses for the day.
How I celebrated this day
Buying myself flowers is the best thing I can do. Self love is also important for mental health. So we should always take car of ourselves and then we can take care of our loved ones.
My outfit
I got my self a floral white dress because I didn’t have any Saree at that moment. Also a beautiful sunflower necklace which is my favourite.
Visited Ramna
In Ramna Botomul Pahela Falgun is celebrated significantly . To reach there you can take it by a bus or rickshaw. Easy access for everyone. So I went there and had fun one by one show was performed on the stage. At evening I took my leave.It was a great day for me.
So overall Pahela Baishakh is full of joy and enjoyment amongst bengalis. Which brings us closer to our tradition and attach us with our roots.
