Last week when we visited the Praia de Odeceixe Mar we´ve also been to two more beaches. Since we know that we´re leaving Portugal soon we´re trying to see as much as possible before that. That day we made a lot of kilometers and drove up and down the coast. It was a long day but we had lots of fun and saw some of the most amazing beaches on west coast of the Algarve.
The first one we visted was Praia da Azenha do Mar, a bit north from Odeceixe. It´s not really a swimming beach nor is it any kind of beach to hang around and sun bath. It was a very rough and rocky beach with absolutely no sand. That doesn´t change the fact that I found it yet another pretty cool beach to explore.
There was a nice wooden boardwalk downhill from where we had a great view on the beach and a small fisher shed on the right. We climbed on one of these rocks to get a better view before we went down to the beach.
To get to the beach we had to climb down a bigger rock, using a rope that was attached there. It wasn´t to hard and to get down you did not actually need that rope but it was good to have it when we went up again and next to that rope was a tiny waterfall.
On the next beach that was way further south we even had to climb a little more than on this one.
Praia do Medo da Fonte Santa that is a bit north of Arrifana, which is one of my favourite surfing beaches is the opposite of the first beach. A very wide sandy beach below the typical cliffs of the Algarve.
The only catch here is how to get down. We were searching about 5 minutes for a way to get down until we saw the many ropes hanging down the steep cliff. It wasn´t like the beach before, it was easily 50 meter down and there were only a few older ropes. I looked steep but at the end it was quite easy.
Down at the beach there was absolutely no one as you can imagine. After a short winter tourists slowly coming back at the Algarve and it gets harder again to be alone at beautiful spots. We walked the beach up and down and found some interesting things down there before we went up again. To climb up was actually the most fun of the day.
On days like this I regret a little bit that we soon have to leave but it also makes me quite certain that we will be back very soon. I think if we come back we stay here for a few years as it is really a special place at the Algarve in Portugal.
