Hello Pinmapplers!
Let's continue, and again, another step of the journey. We are still in Chicago, there are so many things to see, so many places to visit, enjoy and photograph, that it seems that they never end. The photogenic city always offers us something more that surprises us.
And now, this time is the time for culture and in Chicago there is a lot to see. There are many museums, I am going to recommend to visit 4 of those of them:
Field Museum
We start from afar, and from the outside, because almost the first thing that catches our attention is again, the views of Lake Michigan, and it doesn't matter if it's cloudy or sunny, this city is always special and extraordinary.
As are the specimens inside the building in a neoclassical style, a typical museum that everyone will like, especially if you like dinosaurs or animals. Because the star of the museum is this dinosaur bone figure. The size is impressive because it is larger than it may appear in the photo.
There were also several ecosystems, and many, many stuffed animals, as in the Natural Science Museums, always.
Those who like it, it is their place, and if not, outside they can continue contemplating those views, a blue and green that eclipse even the skyscrapers in the background.
Shedd Aquarium
We are still there, in the southern area, and very close to the previous museum we find the aquarium. The truth is that there are many aquariums in many places, but the exterior caught my attention again, not only this time the views but also the building itself and the ad hoc decoration, very appropriate around it.
So if you like marine life and aquariums this is your place, be careful that those photos against the glass don't get too blurry...
Chicago Museum of Fine Arts
Now we return to the heart of the city, in Millennium Park, there we find a large building that houses what I would say is my favorite museum in Chicago. Perhaps it is because I am very classical, and here we find several pictorial and sculptural works from different eras and places, many of them from Europe, even from Africa and Asia. Although also of course, own American art.
But I like French impressionism, and Monet was there and many others.
Also post-impressionists like the famous Van Gogh, there his portrait, or Gauguin with his recognizable paintings of Tahitian life. All very known.
But there are also more modern paintings that we will surely have seen before, and others that impress like this painting that looks like a mirror and that, if you look closely, is the city of Chicago itself, in the background on the right I recognize the museum building itself, and back at that time there was only one of the buildings, one of the tallest, the Aon Center, I already told you about this in previous posts.
And others which show us different cultures, like a Spanish bullfighter smoking or the life of American Natives, and more...
Plus there's sculpture too, we see Native Americans, and the English who massacred them. In different forms, a lot of painting also from the native culture.
And then there are also many objects from the 19th century and from the last 20th century, such as the always beautiful Tiffany's lamps.
In short, there is a great variety, it is very large, and at those moments it seems that we are in a famous museum in any European city. Because Chicago has a European feel to it too.
We leave this museum and we can do it through another door, on the side that leads us to a high-altitude walkway that goes down until it leaves us inside the park itself (look the part IV).
Museum of History
Chicago in the native tongue is spelled differently and very strangely, and I was told it meant more or less, "swampy area where onions grow". That is where the history of Chicago would begin, but there is much more since the fire of 1871 that destroyed practically everything, even the Chicago School and its architecture, or the infrastructures. And what caught my attention the most about this museum is that there is a vintage train inside. Precious and well cared for, it takes us far away, teleports us to another time simply by entering inside.
But its exterior also stands out, not because of the views but because of the peaceful garden, where on good days, they also put on summer movies and among the flowers and the fountain in the back area, it is a great place to spend a different time, after having rested from visiting so many museums.
There are museums, many museums, these are just some of them, perhaps the most popular ones, and I recommend them. We continue, learning more about the windy city, Chicago.
