Venice Grand Canal, Italy The Love Destination of Europe
The Love Destination of Europe
Venice is really should be everyone's bucket list!
Venice would make you fall in love as the Grand Canal is the world's major destination to visit for travelers. The place is by far a dream come true destination, amazing encounters, like being part of a film set. Walking out of the train station was knocked out by the site of the bustling Grand Canal on its main artery of the city and architectural marvel.
Everything in Venice moves on the water all through the city, quaint and quirky connecting all the smaller canals.
Public Transportation
From Rome Italy, we bought a night bus ticket at Buscenter.IT for the price of €36.99 per person starting from Rome (Terminal Bus Tiburtina) to Venezia(Tronchetto). The journey took 7 hours to arrive at the bus station in Venice. It is advisable to book a ticket in advance for you to save more bucks.
Note:
- Strictly No alcoholic drinks allowed in the bus.
- Inclusion: 1 Baggage allowance maximum of 20 kg and 1 hand carry maximum of 5 kg
If you have more baggage, you're gonna pay extra.
It is just a simple bus, and thankfully there is a restroom inside it. We arrive at 7 oçlock in the morning. The bus experience is manageable and convenient if you want to save some bucks instead of sleeping in a hotel.
Where to Stay
Private Room in an Apartment via Airbnb, link HERE
We booked at an Airbnb site that would take 25 minutes ride by train close to Venice and Treviso. We paid only €27 per day. This is a private room apartment which is convenient if you plan to stay longer and inexpensive rate, there are restaurants, supermarkets and cafes nearby. Clean bedroom and a shared bathroom. You can also cook if you want, tea and coffee are free. I would highly recommend you to stay here, the host is so kind. He picked up us early in the morning at around 8 oçlock at the train station to the apartment.
He is very helpful and has a cheerful personality. In addition, he also gave up tips on where and what to avoid entering the Venice Grand Canal.
1st Day
Hence we had a night bus, we wanted to sleep more at the Airbnb apartment first to gather some energy. We went in the afternoon to explore Venice a bit, we are advised about the highs and lows of our Airbnb host on where to go and what stuff to be careful of.
Chiesa San Simeone Piccolo
Upon stepping out of the train station, you will be welcomed with Chiesa San Simeone Piccolo facade. Also known as Santi Simeone e Guilda (Saints Simon and Jude), a very old church founded in 966. The original one was demolished in 1718, Chiesa San Simeon Picollo is one of the last churches to be built in Venice, rebuilt by Giovanni Antonio Scalfarotto and completed in 1738.
Your first glimpse of this city vibes with a huge dome is this refurbished neoclassical church is fabulously outstanding, spiritual, and inviting exterior located at the north end of the grande canal right across the Santa Lucia railway station.
The main highlight of this church is visiting the crypt beneath it. For the price of €2 only, you'll going to have unique and interesting encounters. You'd better expect to have a serene, quiet, and inspiring atmosphere inside. Highly recommended to head over the bridge and have a look in the interior, you'll have to lit a candle to light your way hence it is very dark down there.
Like most of the central tourist destinations, majorities are expensive in Venice. Even a simple shop is pricey, together with stores and restaurants nearby the grand canal.
Rialto Bridge
Rialto Bridge is known as Ponte di Rialto in Italian. One of the main attractions that are the closest to the Grand Canal. We are inlove!! Incredibly stunning that is wonderfully designed and fascinatingly unique. Packed with tourists as it will show you the hotspot of the grand canal to watch from above. This iconic bridge is narrow but definitely worth to stop by and take a look, very overwhelming and cozy atmosphere that would blow you away.
Take note! Venice is pretty huge to walk if you are a tourist who is not familiar with the places around especially for the first-time traveler. There is no other public transportation available in Venice except the boats. In our experience, the alleys are so confusing so make sure to pay attention to places you want to explore further if you don't want to get lost. Oh well, getting lost is an adventure too because that is how we learn!😅 😂
The Love Boats
As most of us seen tons of photographs on any social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blogs, etc, we think that is eye-catching and romantic to see couples riding the gondola around the canal. Capturing these photographs for a minimum fee of €100 in a 30 minute ride is I guess way too much, however, if you wanna spoil your partner, then why not go for it! 😊
Yes! It is very possible to have gondola encounters with your family and in a group. In this way, you pay less than having a private tour.
In addition, you can also take a boat with you and find out interesting spots that you may find interesting to discover. It is always fun and amazing when you experience something new and different out of your comfort zone.
If you fancy to go on a boat tour or ride a gondola, whether it is in small groups, private or half-day sightseeing experience. Click HERE to see this money saver pricelists starting from €20.
While you walk around the Venice Metropolitan City, the roads are narrow and not spacious enough to enter by car. We figured out that the most accessible and easiest way to transfer from one place to another is thru water taxi or water bus, the locals call it "vaporetto"as their means of public transportation. A single ticket that is good for 75 minutes will costs you €7.50.
Tickets are available at the Sta Lucia train station, Piazalle Roma bus station and to many hotels or you can purchase online. For further information about the accessibility of vaporetto, you may view it HERE.
2nd Day
The second day is a fun-filled yet relaxing day where we encountered tons of Venetian architecture as we stroll around the Grand Canal
Scuola Grande di San Rocco
Renowned as one of the most significant buildings in Venice is the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Located in the heart of Campo San Rocco 3052, in San Polo a typical shape of Renaissance structures as seen from the exterior that was establish in 1478, was named after San Rocco a confraternity member popularly regarded as a protector against plague.
Find out the history, sculpture, paintings, arts and stories behind HERE. The Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice is open from 9.30am until 5.30pm every day of the year.
Ponte Degli Scalzi
This atttractive large bridge was first built in 1857 made of Istrian White Stone Arch Bridge. A long and wide bridge spanning the turquoise water.
Take the opportunity to stand, watch the boats go by and capture the magestic scenes of the Grande Canale . This walkway is a shortcut that will take you to the Rialto area and literally a crossroads and a crowded destination popular for tourist. Tons of shops, street vendors, cafes, churches, food spots in the immediate vicinity.
Chiesa Degli Scalzi
Chiesa Degli Scalzi stands for the "Church of the Barefoot or Discalced Monks" in Italian. Impressive church which is a masterpiecce of the Venetian Baroque period composed of ornate decorations exterior in an obscure location near the bridge right next to the Sta Lucia station. Chiese Degli Scalzi was completed in 17th century. In the church, photos and videos is prohibitted especially when you capture by flash. The interior is magnificient, varieties of ornate painting and twisted marbles column is truly remarkable.
Very theatrical outlook with many twisted columns, a real hidden gem in Venice worth exploring.
One thing that we adore about Venice not only the historical and astonishing attractions has to offer, but the local food, the people and they way of living. Venice brought a special place in our hearts!
