Hello, dreamers & Hivers!
Thank you for dropping by. Yesterday, I shared my experience on Island Hopping in Gigantes Islands, a beautiful set of Islands in Carles, Iloilo, which is 2 hours away from Roxas Airport, the nearest airport at the time of our arrival.
My outbound flight leaves early in the morning and I would not want to miss it (because I missed my flight to Singapore once) so I decided to just spend a night in Roxas City and have glimpse of this historical place.
There are 2 ways to commute from Carles to Roxas City, by van or bus. From Roxas to Carles, we opted for the van because we wanted to get there faster. I was seated at the back and got really bad motion sickness. So, on the way back, we decided to just take the bus (non-airconditioned) to prevent getting sick again.
The bus ride is really enjoyable with the view of the rice fields and the simple homes near the highway. Another thing I loved about it is the fresh air! If you are not in a hurry, I highly suggest taking the bus instead of van.
We reach the terminal after over 2 hours (honestly it did not feel that long because I was enjoying the scenery). We hailed a tricycle to the hotel downtown, Roxas President's Inn.
It is a highly recommended 3-star hotel and the location is really nice.
We just dropped our bags and went out to find a place to eat - it was not hard because across the hotel is a local restaurant famous for their barbecue, RML Manokan Haus Kamayan.
After the late lunch, we decided to look around while the sun is still up. First thing that my eye feasted on is this house on the corner. Not sure, but it looks residential to me.
Just a few minute walk and we reached the Ang Panublion Museum. I love going to museums whenever I travel. Visiting historical places and knowing about the place's history gives a more personal touch to trip. It feels more personal than just merely roaming around.
Unfortunately, the museum was closed that day because they are preparing the gallery for next week. Too bad!
We just walked to wherever our foot led us and to the narrow strip we found ourselves looking for souvenirs. I love the vibe of that alley because it felt local - and yeah, because it has a good shade from the really hot weather that day.
Little did I know that the strip is just beside Roxas Cathedral!
Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral or Roxas Cathedral, is one of the oldest in Panay Island. The structure was built in 1827 and was reconstructed in 1954. It sits at the center of Roxas City, formerly Municipality of Capiz.1
We decided to go back to the hotel to rest our feet and on our way back, we passed by the statue of the late president, Manuel Roxas.
Another interesting place to visit is President Roxas' ancestral house that is well preserved by his cousin.3 We were not able to go there though.
| The city center lit up in the night which makes the structures look like giant gallery art pieces. |

That's the end of our walk in Roxas City. I wish we had more time but that will do for now. Maybe someday I can go back again and explore more.
If you made it here, allow me to send my gratitude. I know you are busy but I hope you enjoyed this quick break in Roxas City. See you in the next one!
