Can you help me to pronounce correctly the name of this town, Sommacampagna?
Would it sound like...
Some campaign?
Summer camping?
Sunny camp Ana?
Ok, I am just joking, for sure I would try to pronounce the name Sommacampagna in the Italian way. I studied this language for four years in high school. It doesn't mean that I speak it well but I can understand a bit (when it is spoken slowly haha). Anyway, I have never heard about this town until we arrived there. Even when I booked the hotel I didn't really pay attention to its name. I saw that the accommodation was ok, somewhere between Verona and the lake Lago di Garda. We wanted to stop and rest, look around and sleep well for the next day when we would continue our road trip.
The town itself is not very big. The streets and the houses are nice and neat, though we could feel like going back in time. Just look, the walls of these houses exhale history.
This house was also a charming one, with the plants in front of the building and maybe you can also notice a sundial in the facade.
In the same street, we saw several houses with a sundial on the walls. It gave an additional feeling of walking in the past, just the car that drove by brought us back to the present and reality.
Before I went on the real exploration adventure I took a quick shower and left my boys in the hotel room. I was not tired (as I slept in the car a bit) and the town was waiting for a tourist Hiver. That was me that ran down the stairs and saw the part of my name on the wall. Piano.
We were on the second floor though I noticed the board when I was on the first.
Piano in Italian means exactly that - floor.
The streets were almost empty as it was still warm at the moment of taking these pictures. Also, I wanted to find a restaurant to have dinner. Some of them were still closed. The restaurants in Italy usually open for dinner at 19:00.
More people appeared in the city centre. I saw one place where we could have our dinner but I also saw one ice cream shop. Italian ice cream. Gelato. I didn't resist 🍦
My ice cream disappeared in this little park just before my boys sent me a message that they are coming too. The plan was to eat pizza or something together and later go to the lake (in the end, we didn't make it to the lake, it was already a long day).
Finally, without a rant for food. The pizza was really good, and we were satisfied with the service and the prices. Until now we have always found good food in Italy, wherever we stayed. The only funny thing was when I ordered coffee and the waitress was surprised - coffee with pizza? 😂 I know, not a usual combination!
From the terrasse of the restaurant, we were seeing one tower. The same tower could be seen from the other side, from the window of the hotel where we stayed.
I liked it. Again a charming view... But!
Do you remember what happened in France? When we stayed in a little village, with the hotel by the church? A little reminder of that story...
So, this tower also had bells... and the bells were making their music 😂
Noooooooo. History was repeating!! Or was it just a déjà vu? Why do we have to stay always by a church or a tower, with bells?
But I am not complaining, it was just a funny situation. In the evening we closed the windows and we slept like babies.
