It was All Saint's Day, which is a Swedish Halloween Day. It is a day when many Swedes visit centuries to light candles 🕯️ to show respect to the dead. It is very different from Americanized Halloween 🎃 👻 It was nice to learn some Swedish culture through the event 😌🙏
Skogskyrkogården
We visited Skogskyrkan, Forest Cemetry in Stockholm on All Hallows' Day, which is a day to visit cemeteries and light candles 🕯️ to show respect to the dead.
This cemetery was designed by Gunnar Asplund, who is a Swedish renowned architect. The cemetery has been registered as a World Heritage site. This year they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the completion of the cemetery.
I've heard that people share some sense that people go back to the forest after they die in Scandinavia. It is a traditional belief many people still share and feel. And, Gunnar Asplund embodied this Swedish belief on the cemetery built a Mound of Memory and Forest.
It was such a memorable experience 😄👏
