Looking for the only Venezuelan artist in the Louvre museum
París tiene mucho lugares encantadores al aire libre y gran cantidad de monumentos interesantes para visitar sin necesidad de preocuparse por pagar una entrada, incluso estos en los cuales hay que pagar ofrecen entrada libre en determinados días del año.
Durante mi primera visita a esta ciudad intenté evitar las principales atracciones turísticas porque la cantidad de gente que había visitando la ciudad era considerable, y al estar pocos días no quería malgastar el tiempo en colas innecesarias.
Y aunque el museo del Louvre no se libraba de la asidua multitud yo tenía muchas ganas de conocerlo. Me planteé que si tenía la oportunidad de asistir a alguno de los puntos turísticos que requerían emplear mucho tiempo para ser disfrutados de entre todos tenía que priorizar este museo.
No fue tarea fácil, las entradas se agotaban muy rápido para los horarios de la mañana en que es más cómodo ir y así tener todo el día para perderte entre los pasillos y plantas del museo, y al hacer el primer intento poco antes de medio día nos encontramos con unas colas interminables para acceder, incluso para la gente que había comprado su entrada anticipadamente por la página web.
Tras valorar nuestras opciones y la disponibilidad de las entradas decidimos que a ultima hora de la tarde era el momento ideal para entrar sin hacer colas y ver aunque sea la obra en cuestión a la que yo quería darle caza.
Paris has a lot of lovely outdoor places and a lot of interesting monuments to visit without worrying about paying an entrance fee, even those where you have to pay offer free entrance on certain days of the year.
During my first visit to this city I tried to avoid the main tourist attractions because the amount of people visiting the city was considerable, and being only a few days I did not want to waste time in unnecessary queues.
And although the Louvre museum was not spared from the assiduous crowd I really wanted to see it. I thought that if I had the opportunity to attend any of the tourist attractions that required a lot of time to be enjoyed, I had to prioritize this museum.
It was not an easy task, the tickets were sold out very quickly for the morning hours in which it is more comfortable to go and thus have the whole day to get lost among the corridors and floors of the museum, and when we made the first attempt shortly before noon we found endless queues to access, even for people who had purchased their tickets in advance through the website.
After evaluating our options and the availability of tickets we decided that late afternoon was the ideal time to enter without queuing and see even the work in question that I wanted to hunt down.

Así que lo dejamos para el día siguiente y por no darlo por perdido aproveché para tachar de la lista de comida francesa pendiente unos cuantos platos típicos que tenía pendientes en mi lista.
En Cafe La Coopérative pude probar una versiones muy buenas de la Croque-Madame y la Sopa de cebolla, que no fueron las primeras que probé en mi estadía en la ciudad, pero sí las que valen la pena ser mencionadas.
La recomendación del restaurante la recibimos de un lugareño, y aunque yo no tenía muchas expectativas por el hecho de estar situado en un lugar muy turístico, resultó ser bastante agradable y sabroso.
Aprovechamos la oportunidad para probar una cerveza artesanal parisina que tenían, llamada Demory Paris y que también estaba muy buena, la acompañamos con unos típicos caracoles mientras esperábamos los platos.
So we left it for the next day and not to give it for lost I took the opportunity to cross off the list of pending French food a few typical dishes that I had waiting on my list.
At Cafe La Coopérative I was able to try some very good versions of the Croque-Madame and the Onion Soup, which were not the first ones I tried during my stay in the city, but these were worth mentioning.
We received the restaurant recommendation from a local, and although I did not have high expectations due to the fact that it is located in a very touristy place, it turned out to be quite nice and tasty.
We took the opportunity to try a Parisian craft beer they had, called Demory Paris and it was also very good, we accompanied it with some typical snails while waiting for the dishes.

Al día siguiente con entrada en mano adquirida por internet y con un costo de 17,00 € el acceso al museo fue muy fácil, ya nadie estaba esperando a esa hora, tenía entrada para las 16:00, lo que me daba solamente 2 horas para poder disfrutar de las instalaciones del museo, tiempo muy escaso para los más de 20.000 m2 con los que cuenta el recinto, se supone que una visita rápida en el Louvre para ver las obras más destacadas es de unas 4 horas mas o menos.
A pesar de esto yo tenía un itinerario bastante limitado y un par de objetivos bastante claros, el principal era conseguir la obra más reciente inaugurada en el museo perteneciente a Elías Crespín, el primer artista latinoamericano en contar con una obra permanente expuesta en el museo, el único Venezolano presente en el Louvre y uno de los únicos 2 artistas vivos que cuentan con una obra expuesta en el museo.
El segundo objetivo era ver la obra del pintor francés Eugène Delacroix, el cuadro de La libertad guiando al pueblo que me parece de lo más interesante, anécdota pendiente.
Teniendo esto en cuenta sabía que iba a ser una locura buscar todo por mi cuenta, así que al entrar aunque hay dispuestos mapas del museo indicando la ubicación de las obras más destacadas y como llegar a ellas pedí ayuda en el módulo de información, temiendo por alguna absurda razón que el trabajador del museo no supiera a qué obra me refería cuando le pregunté por Elías Crespín, para mi alegría me sorprendió con un muy marcado acento Francés “Oh el Crespin, of course”.
Muy amablemente me trazó con un bolígrafo en el mapa el camino que debía recorrer para llegar al emplazamiento en donde se encuentra expuesto y diciéndome que hice muy bien en preguntarle porque ese día estaban cerrados un par de accesos de los pasillos que me llevarían directamente a la obra, por lo que tuvo que marcarme un recorrido alternativo. Partí contenta.
The next day with ticket in hand, purchased online at a cost of 17.00 €, access to the museum was very easy, no one was waiting at that time, I had entrance for 16:00, which gave me only 2 hours to enjoy the museum facilities, very little time for the more than 20,000 m2 with which the enclosure has, it is assumed that a quick visit to the Louvre to see the most important works is about 4 hours or so.
Despite this I had a very limited itinerary and a couple of clear objectives, the main one was to get the most recent work inaugurated in the museum belonging to Elías Crespín, the first Latin American artist to have a permanent work exhibited in the museum, the only Venezuelan present in the Louvre and one of only 2 living artists who have a work exhibited in the museum.
The second objective was to see the work of the French painter Eugène Delacroix, the painting of Freedom leading the people which I find most interesting, anecdote pending.
With this in mind I knew it was going to be a madness to look for everything on my own, so when I entered the museum although there are maps of the museum indicating the location of the most outstanding works and how to get to them I asked for help at the information desk, fearing for some absurd reason that the museum worker did not know what work I was referring to when I asked him for Elías Crespín, to my joy he surprised me with a very strong French accent "Oh el Crespin, of course".
He very kindly traced with a pen on the map the path I had to follow to get to the site where it is exhibited and told me that I did very well to ask him because that day a couple of accesses to the corridors that would take me directly to the work were closed, so he had to mark an alternative route. I left very happy.

Entrar en el museo es una maravilla, a pesar de ir un poco a las carreras era imposible no deslumbrarse ante la grandeza de la estructura interna de la gran cantidad de obras que hay expuestas. Ver los pasillos y las amplias galerías que siempre he admirado en libros y videos fue una experiencia muy gratificante.
Walking into the museum is a marvel, despite going a little to the races it was impossible not to be dazzled by the grandeur of the internal structure of the large number of works on display. Seeing the corridors and the large galleries that I have always admired in books and videos was a very rewarding experience.

Una de las primeras obras que te encuentras sin necesidad de buscarla es la escultura Victoria alada de Samotracia que genera gran impresión al verla aparecer repentinamente en las escaleras, es preciosa.
Poco más adelante también aparece la famosísima Venus de Milo que enceste caso al estar al alcance de la gente estaba vallada y por supuesto rodeada de muchísima gente.
One of the first works that you find without having to look for it is the sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace that generates great impression when you see it suddenly appear on the stairs, it is beautiful.
A little further on also appears the very famous Venus of Milo that in my case, being within reach of the people, was fenced and of course surrounded by many people.

Luego de perderme un par de veces a pesar de tener un camino marcado en el mapa, llegué a la primera ubicación deseada en donde se alza de manera imponente la única obra cinética del louvre L'onde du midi que se traduce como la onda del mediodia.
Esta obra mecánica refleja el movimiento de la ondas solares por medio de un programa que mueve varas metálicas suspendidas de unos cables transparentes y que solo se repite cada media hora, es un algoritmo basado en ecuaciones matemáticas que se traduce en un movimiento armónico que es un placer para la vista y a la vez un descanso.
El espacio donde se ubica también resulta muy bonito, la obra está a una altura considerable y puedes caminar debajo de ella para apreciar el movimiento desde varios ángulos, también han dispuesto de un asiento justo en frente para contemplar tranquilamente la onda.
After getting lost a couple of times despite having a path marked on the map, I arrived at the first desired location where the only kinetic work of the louvre L'onde du midi which translates as the wave of noon rises imposingly.
This mechanical work reflects the movement of the solar waves by means of a program that moves metallic rods suspended from transparent cables and that is only repeated every half hour, it is an algorithm based on mathematical equations that translates into a harmonic movement that is a pleasure for the eyes and at the same time a rest.
The space where it is located is also very nice, the work is at a considerable height and you can walk under it to appreciate the movement from several angles, they have also provided a seat right in front to quietly contemplate the wave.

No podía estar más contenta, no solo la conseguí sin demasiados inconvenientes sino que también pude disponer de unos 20 minutos al menos para contemplar durante un rato esta obra ejemplar, me hubiese gustado poder estar más tiempo y estudiar un poco la secuencia completa los 30 minutos pero quedé muy conforme con lo que pude observar.
No es solo un orgullo que este artista tenga expuesta esta brillante obra el el museo más importante del mundo, sino que también es satisfactorio saber que el arte es universal, Crespín es ingeniero, y su mundo gira en torno a las ciencias, comenzó su incursión como artista ya de mayor y sin anhelar máximo reconocimiento y así ha llegado hasta aquí. Increíble.
En Venezuela hay grandes artistas cinéticos, y sus trabajos son conocidos en muchas partes del mundo, pero yo creo que se habla poco de Crespín con todo lo que ha hecho y lo maravillosa que es esta obra en directo.
I could not be happier, not only I got it without too many inconveniences but also I could have at least 20 minutes to contemplate for a while this exemplary work, I would have liked to stay longer and study a little the complete sequence of the 30 minutes but I was very satisfied with what I could observe.
It is not only a pride that this artist has exposed this brilliant work in the most important museum in the world, but it is also satisfying to know that art is universal, Crespín is an engineer, and his world revolves around the sciences, he began his incursion as an artist when he was an adult and without longing for maximum recognition and so he has come this far. Incredible.
In Venezuela there are great kinetic artists, and their works are known in many parts of the world, but I believe that little is said about Crespín with all that he has done and how wonderful this live work is.

Por supuesto dediqué un momento a acercarme a la famosa Mona lisa aunque casi desisto porque, como era de esperar, era el sitio donde había el mayor cúmulo de gente, sin embargo fui paciente y me acerqué para apreciarla brevemente.
Es curioso estar ante algo tan importante como si fuera de lo más normal, lástima que los gritos y afán de tanta gente no permiten disfrutar de todo el detalle.
Of course I dedicated a moment to approach the famous Smooth Mona although I almost gave up because, as expected, it was the place where there was the largest crowd of people, however I was patient and I approached to appreciate it briefly.
It is curious to be in front of something so important as if it were the most normal thing, pity that the shouts and eagerness of so many people do not allow to enjoy all the detail.
Justo a un lado de la Gioconda están expuestos gran cantidad de cuadros que son increíbles, y que hasta en alguna ocasión me parecieron más llamativos que el primero, la fama es una cuestión muy curiosa.
Tampoco dispuse mucho tiempo en esta estancia porque me quedaba muy poco y quería ver el otro cuadro que tenía pendiente, así que me puse en su busqueda nada más para llevarme una gran decepción.
Estuve dando vueltas en la estancia donde se supone que estaba ubicado, llegué hasta a pensar que me había imaginado las grandes dimensiones que se supone debía tener el cuadro y que seguro no lo veía porque era más pequeño, pero ni buscándolo así pude encontrarlo.
Me acerqué a preguntarle a un trabajador y con señas y poco ingles me explicó que sí era la ubicación correcta pero que estaban restaurándolo y era por eso que no lo conseguía, fue un momento bastante decepcionante.
Aunque me animé al toparme con el cuadro de Laconsagración de Napoleón del artista francés Jacques-Louis David y me sorprendió lo enorme y lleno de detalle que era, me gustó mucho verlo.
Right next to the Mona Lisa are exposed a lot of paintings that are incredible, and that even on occasion seemed to me more striking than the first one, fame is a very curious matter.
I didn't have much time in this room because I had very little time left and I wanted to see the other painting that I had pending, so I started looking for it only to be very disappointed.
I was walking around the room where it was supposed to be located, I even thought that I had imagined the large dimensions that the painting was supposed to have and that I surely did not see it because it was smaller, but even looking for it I could not find it.
I went to ask a worker and with signs and little English he explained that it was the correct location but that they were restoring it and that was why I could not find it, it was a very disappointing moment.
Although I was encouraged when I came across the painting of Napoleon's consecration by the French artist Jacques-Louis David and I was surprised by how huge and full of detail it was, I really liked to see it.

Por ultimo aproveché de mirar algunas esculturas en mármol cuando nos estaban pidiendo abandonáramos el recinto porque era hora de cerrar, me gustó toparme con algunas esculturas que mostraban la técnica del velo hiperrealista que siempre me ha gustado mucho, espero poder volver y apreciarlas con más detalle.
Finally I took the opportunity to look at some marble sculptures when they were asking us to leave the enclosure because it was closing time, I liked to run into some sculptures that showed the technique of hyperrealistic veil that I have always liked, I hope to return and appreciate them in more detail.

Fue una visita muy rápida, lo sé, pero tengo que admitir que sentí mucha satisfacción al encontrar el trabajo de Crespín y de transitar a las carreras por uno de los museos más grandes del mundo, fue divertido y una experiencia, aunque mejorable, inolvidable.
Me despido con unas imágenes desde dentro de la pirámide a la salida del museo, eran divertidas las formas que se reflejaban en el suelo cuando entraba el sol.
It was a very quick visit, I know, but I have to admit that I felt a lot of satisfaction to find Crespín's work and to go running through one of the largest museums in the world, it was fun and an experience, although improvable, unforgettable.
I say goodbye with some images from inside the pyramid at the exit of the museum, the shapes that were reflected on the floor when the sun came in were funny.
