After the fungi Friday, our feet were already calling again for the forest. With intention to find some edible mushrooms, we started our trip.
Mount Saint Mary (Šmarna gora) is a lonely hill that regardless of the low hight (664 m) offers beautiful views of the Kamnik and Julian Alps and of course on the Ljubljana city.
From Ljubljana, there goes city bus directly to the starting points (line 1 or 8). Living on the north site of the city with the view on the hill, there was no need for us to take the bus. The distance was walkable, maybe a bit annoying by the main road.
You can choose between 15 different paths that lead to the top. Depending on the path it takes from 30 minute to one hour to reach the restaurant which offers nice food (recommendable is to try sweet "miške" in English would be mics), a Baroque church build like a fort. The road goes very steep and many people use hiking sticks.
In Slovenia there is a saying that you are not a real Ljubljana citizen if you haven't visit Šmarna gora, therefore we met the whole troops of people on the way up.
People say that ringing the bell that you can find just beneath the top will grant all your wishes.
After exploring the top and enjoying the sunbathing in cool deck chairs with amazing view, it was time to make some deserved lunch. For cooking we used clay pot which makes cooking outdoors really amazing. As usual, tons of vegetables, spices and pasta. Using some nice sauces as extra did the magic.
There were many different animals and plants crossing our way today. The most interesting animal was big yellow fluffy caterpillar (Calliteara pudibunda).
For a healthy snack we snached some amazing looking red apples which were growing near the path. They were so juicy and looking exactly like apple from the Snowhite.
