Hello travellers,
I wish you all a fulfilling start to the week, and here's to more places explored by you and shared in this amazing community.
In the last post we visited with you a part of the amazing salt mine in Turda, Cluj county, namely the Rudolf Mine.
The gate to the middle of the earth, Turda Salt Mine, Cluj county, Romania, part. I
Today we continue our exploration of the salt mine in Turda, and we will turn our attention to the Terezia Mine, an amazing place that I hope will surprise you as it surprised me.
From what I have read on the information boards (there are a lot of information boards) Terezia Mine has a depth of 90m, and at the base of the mine a beautiful lake has formed which has a depth between 5-8m.
How did we get here?
If you haven't visited the first part of my post about the saltworks, I'll give you a brief summary of how I got here and what I did here.
The salt mine has its own parking lot where you pay a fee per hour of parking, tickets to enter the mine can be bought directly from the cashier or online (advantage for not waiting in line), we explored mainly the Rudolf Mine in the first part, but we also visited the Echoes Area, the Riches Ladder, *The Crivac Hall *(the Crivac was the mechanism by which salt was taken out of the mine), we went down in a panoramic lift into the mine where we found a huge wheel on which you could climb and have a view of the Rudolf Mine, also here we found souvenir shops, pool tables, table tennis, golf course, but the next surprise.
Let the adventure begin...
After a few hours in the Rudolf Mine we continued to explore the Terezia Mine, so at first glance we saw that we had two possibilities to go down into the mine, by stairs or by a normal elevator (the elevator that took us into the Rudolf Mine was a panoramic one), here we had to go down 3 floors (instead in the Rudolf mine we went down 13 floors), we lined up and waited for the elevator whose capacity was 4 persons (320 kg), locked as in a box in this elevator we waited a few seconds until the elevator doors opened and after a few steps we were speechless.
In front of us is a wooden bridge over this lake, my god how beautiful it is here, the air seems a bit hard to breathe, probably because of the depth and salinity, we continue our adventure underground and cross this bridge.
On the right side we see a kind of pier where you could rent boats for a romantic ride on an underground lake (so fantastic), renting a boat for twenty minutes is 30lei/6euro, we head to the pier but surprise, all the boats were already rented for another two hours, we didn't have time to wait that long so we said no to the boat ride and continued our walk to see what else we could discover in the area, so we came across an amphitheatre (how nice it can be to have a workout here), we saw many relaxing places with wooden benches that seem to start eating salt (unfortunately on these spaces some lovers left their mark and wrote their names there).
We also got lost among the strangers and relaxed for a few minutes, then slowly retreated to the surface exit (we spent about an hour and a half taking the elevator to the surface).
In conclusion I can say that the salt mine in Turda, Cluj county is impressive and if you ever visit Cluj do not miss this salt mine, you will not regret it, you can spend a whole day here and you will not get bored (you can do many activities down here in the mine).
Dear travel lovers this was the second part of our discovery of the Terezia Mine, which in my opinion is an even more impressive place than the Rudolf Mine, I thank all of you who have stopped by and all of you who support me, and until the next post I say goodbye.
P.S. The pictures are taken by me with my mobile phone (I apologize that some of them are not so clear, I think the salt particles have affected my phone camera) and the text is also mine.
