What a difference a month makes. Last time, this area was barely emerging from winter, but now, spring has definitely sprung! Next time, maybe we'll even try our hand at some fishing... The area is known for panfish (such as bluegill), largemouth bass, muskies and northern pike.
I took the above video to make into a relaxtion video (once I edit out the part where my daughters started bickering about something...) You can hear birds such as the red-wing blackbird and blue jays.
Mondeaux Flowage is a 411-acre dammed lake near Westboro, Wisconsin. It is located within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and is the focal point of the Mondeaux Dam Recreation Area.

Below Mondeaux Dam, water flows through the semi-artificial Mondeaux River which flows into the South Jump River, which, in turn flows to the Chippewa River and eventually to the Mississippi which forms a large part of the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota.
My youngest decided to do some wet exploration of the river and found a number of treasures...
I believe this is an Eastern Pondmussel, but I'm awaiting confirmation from the Wisconsin Mussel Monitoring Program - in any case, it is illegal to harvest any mussels in Wisconsin, so this is only to observe. She returned it to the river.
