The Job I've Always Dreamed | Day 4 of 30-DAY #BLOGGING CHALLENGE | [ENG/SPAN] - Part 1

We all think of a "dream job" as one in which one loves to perform and not think of it as work. We're rewarded for doing what we love. But what if a dream job would be something that's necessary and is a lot of work.

That's what I envision when I think of a dream job. It's a career or any full-time employment that would help others secure a safe life away from their otherwise unsafe environment. It could also be something that would be a positive influence in their lives.

At the age of 13, I decided I wanted to join the Peace Corps after viewing a television commercial. I wanted to explore the world and help others at the same time. I would dream of all the exciting things I'd get to do; the people I'd meet; and the places I'd visit. I dreamed of becoming a missionary help in developing countries.

I urged my older sister to help me prepare for this exciting career. When she explained to me what I was getting into, I didn't want to believe her. I was sick with worry that I would not be able to join. I wanted to leave my family and the one to venture out into the world, then return and have stories to share with them.

Finally, I to mustered up enough nerve to call the toll free number myself to talk with someone. I was devastated all over again as the representative explained to me what the Peace Corp was about. The first requirement I found out was that the minimum age to join was 18 years old.

The representative also explained that the Peace Corps was created in 1961. But the most fascinating thing I learned was that this organization was created to promote world peace. They accomplished this by adhering to their set goals. The organization aimed to help other countries train their citizens and develop a better understanding of America.

The term you serve is for two years. It's an honorable service that is relatively safe. However, the representative stressed that it's not for everyone. If you decide to join, you have to understand it's a serious commitment.

All that sounded daunting to me at that age. But I still wanted to try it out. I felt I had the fortitude and dedication to stick with any project I undertook.

However, by the time I was 18, I'd met my future spouse and life took me in a different direction. I then looked for way to help women and children in distress. I've been doing this since that time.

I never lost my admiration for the Peace Corps.

Todos pensamos que un "trabajo de ensueño" es aquel en el que uno ama actuar y no piensa en él como un trabajo. Somos recompensados por hacer lo que amamos. Pero, ¿y si un trabajo de ensueño fuera algo que es necesario y es mucho trabajo?

Eso es lo que imagino cuando pienso en un trabajo de ensueño. Es una carrera o un empleo a tiempo completo que ayudaría a otros a asegurar una vida segura lejos de su ambiente inseguro. También podría ser algo que sería una influencia positiva en sus vidas.

Finalmente, reuní el valor suficiente para llamar yo mismo al número gratuito para hablar con alguien. Estaba devastado de nuevo cuando el representante me explicó de qué se trataba el Cuerpo de Paz. El primer requisito que descubrí fue que la edad mínima para unirse era de 18 años.

También me explicó que el Cuerpo de Paz fue creado en 1961. Pero lo más fascinante que aprendí fue que esta organización fue creada para promover la paz mundial. Lo lograron adhiriéndose a los objetivos que se habían fijado. La organización tenía como objetivo ayudar a otros países a entrenar a sus ciudadanos y desarrollar un mejor entendimiento de América.

El plazo de su servicio es de dos años. Es un servicio honorable que es relativamente seguro. Sin embargo, el representante subrayó que no es para todos. Si decides unirte, tienes que entender que es un compromiso serio.

Todo eso me sonaba desalentador a esa edad. Pero aún así quería probarlo. Sentía que tenía la fortaleza y la dedicación para seguir con cualquier proyecto que emprendiera.

Sin embargo, a los 18 años, conocí a mi futura esposa y la vida me llevó en una dirección diferente. Entonces busqué la manera de ayudar a las mujeres y niños en apuros. He estado haciendo esto desde entonces.

Nunca perdí mi admiración por el Cuerpo de Paz.
