I am glad I made it to the 15th day of this challenge which has kept me consistent in writing especially my thoughts on variety of topics both easy and tough to respond to.
Talking about the topic for today which is: the most difficult language to learn. This is determined by the region a person comes from. For instance, an English speaker who has had no experience in non-latin languages would feel the difficulty in learning them while one who may have been around or had encounter may not.
From my research over the cause, it is figured that there are some languages uniquely difficult especially to English speakers. Below are languages that is in that category:
1. MANDARIN: This language is ranked as the top most difficult language for English speakers. It is the language of the Chinese people. The difficulty in this language comes both from the writing and tonal nature. The writing of the Chinese is quite different as one would need to memorize a lot of signs, symbols and special characters which is different from the accustomed Latin language.
The tonal nature is a difficult aspect of the mandarin language as a word can have 4 pronounciations having different meaning.
2. ARABIC: This is a non-latin language also. It is the language of the Quran and is ranked after mandarin as the 2nd most difficult language to learn for English speakers.
It is seen that there are different characteristics of the Arabic language uniquely different based on the region and country they are spoken. This means the are different dialect in which one would have to choose to learn.
There is also one more thing to notice in the difficulty of this language as the writing format is quite different from the way it is in English. Arabic is written from right to left as different from the normal left to write for the English language.
There are many more languages listed to be difficult to learn for English language users. So I leave you with reference 1 and reference 2 to know more of those languages.
I will like to know if you have any language you are learning at the moment, feel free to share the difficulties you are facing in the language 🙂
