Today I decided to take a quick nap in the early moments of the night so I could wake up all energized and do some important stuff, but then I ended up missing some important stuff. We've all had this sort of experience at least once or twice. For me they seem to happen a bit more frequently than others, but then that's a story for another day. Anyways, waking up to see I'd missed something important again made me remember another time when I missed something important thanks to sleep and I find it pretty funny so I decided I might as well share it with you guys.
I wonder why the funnier stories of my life often come from my childhood, I'm just going to go ahead and assume life was funnier then. I was just around 6 to 8 years old. I can't remember exactly. One of my favorite aunties was getting married to the love of her life and she picked me (out of all the other little boys in the family) to be the little groom. You needed to see how happy I was, Overjoyed even. I was going to wear a spiffy suit, walk with the entourage, and hold the hands of my beautiful little bride. It was basically preparation for my own wedding, hehe. I was also going to sit at the front as well, and be the one to bring the ring to the Pastor when it was time to join the couple. It was going to be amazing.
It was the day of the wedding. I was looking handsome as always in my suit. I walked in with the entourage and my little bride and we went ahead to sit in front. It was all going well. Then the wedding ceremony started and I got bored. Even as of now I get bored rather easily not to talk of then. As a child sitting in one place is like a punishment on its own. But as a little groom, I can't be embarrassing myself by moving up and down unnecessarily. So I just sat on my chair and spent some time fidgeting. I think I did it too well because the next thing I knew I was at the reception hall.
Damn, what did I miss?
Everything
I was in pain as I watched the videos. How could I sleep so deep in such a short period of time. I slept so deep that when it was time to present the ring to the Pastor for the joining, the little bride tried waking me up, but I was far gone. I didn't even answer her, I just shrugged her off. After making the Pastor wait awkwardly for a while, she had to do it instead of me. And then when everyone was dancing with the couple I was the only one who was sleeping. I ended up embarrassing myself even more, and trust my family to put salt into the injury by laughing at me and teasing me.
I got teased about it by my family for years. And funny enough that was my one and only little groom experience ever, I wonder why :)
Since that day I don't think I can ever fall asleep in a public gathering. Thankfully we now have phones to kill the boredom in situations like that.
