I have tried to think more funny stereotypes in my country and could only come up with these four I'll be sharing today so this will be the last part until I can think of more and just make a normal post about it.
This is the last part of this series I started, you can read up the other parts to have a good laugh - Stereotypes 1 || Stereotypes 2 || Stereotypes 3
Question to question
Maybe this isn't a stereotype, it's just one annoying thing we Nigerians do and we will continue to do it even in our next hundredth generations.. Asking a question back at a question that was asked.
Question - What are you doing?
Reply/question - You wan send me message? (Do you want to send me on an arrand?)
Question - Have you eaten?
Answer/question - You wan give me food?
It's worse than these examples I've given... We tend to ask questions just not to answer some questions obviously but I've come to learn that it is disrespectful because I can't imagine myself replying my dad's question with a question except I want to receive sweet spanking on the head π
It is disrespectful but don't mind me saying I'm so used to replying that way (Of course, I'm more conscious around my dad and elderly ones) even yesterday, I had a hot words fight with a friend because I replied with a question when he asked a very simple question.
A short funny story - A friend once called me on the phone and asked me a question out of random... Do I act mature or like a child? And I replied in seconds... Don't you know you act immaturely most times? He ended the call.
I later found out he was with a bunch of friends who asked him to call anyone to confirm he was mature, the call was on loud speaker!!!
No dinner night
Have you gone to bed without eating dinner? Did you ate in your dreams?
You should make sure to eat dinner from now on if you don't want to keep eating in the dream. I was made to believe that going to bed with empty stomach causes dreams where I eat in it. And such dreams are bad signs but I'm still wondering why they are tagged bad dreams when I caused it myself... I guess this is the only kind of dream one can prepare for him or herself π
Well, I'm yet to see how true this is...
Most of the times when I go to bed with empty stomach, I find myself counting the number of ceiling division my room has and then I close my eyes to stop counting, when I open them it's morning... No dream where I ate meals (Why is mine different?).
The times I do eat in the dream most times fall in the nights where I ate to my satisfaction for dinner... Why the dream then? I later discovered that the ones I do have when I actually ate dinner are the real bad sign dreams π¬
Nigerians will be like, "Abi you chop for dream?" π this question is asked when the person wakes up in the morning and don't have appetite to eat.
Rice for Sundays
Visit every house in Nigeria on Sundays, you'll be served rice... I didn't say you should visit the Nigerian Muslims though (They obviously do theirs on Fridays, just not sure if they serve rice too).
It's like a must to prepare rice on a Sunday especially stew rice π but guess what! My family must be from a foreign land because I could count the number of times we had rice on Sundays. I was surprised to know about this few months back.
Imagine eating noodles or soup on a Sunday... I can remember the sound of a voice in my ears when I said I was having cassava flakes and floating berries on Sunday afternoon π€£
Is it not what I have I will eat regardless of what day it is? I guess it is. But I remember a friend of mine once prepared empty and white looking rice just to fulfil that Sunday ritual of eating rice. The rice was almost tasteless but the fact that he was eating it on a Sunday made it delicious in his mouth... How insane is that?
I'm not a big fan of rice so maybe I will declare my Sundays to be my fried turkey eating day... I may just be able to afford it every Sunday, oh my! That would be wonderful.. What do you think about my thoughts?
This is my entry to The COMedy Rumble and I'm inviting and
