Cuando ya tenemos cierta edad y estamos un poco establecidos, pueda que ocurra antes, deseamos tener a nuestros hijos. Ahora, como nadie nació aprendido y no tenemos un manual de padres, además si somos primerizos en este aspecto, muchas veces no sabemos como actuar en caso de que los niños estando a pocos meses de nacido enfermen y no sabemos que hacer. Hablando desde mi propia experiencia, estamos concientes de que las abuelitas tienen un alto grado de sabiduría en éstas situaciones por lo que nosotros estamos un poco cubiertos cuando estamos cerca de ellos, ya que al ocurrir cualquier eventualidad, allí estaban ellas presentes para ayudar en lo que fuera necesario, y aún siempre lo están.

Pero la situación cambia cuando estamos muy lejos de los sabios y suceden emergencias, porque al final en esos momentos somos muchachos. Las abuelitas tienen sus trucos para bajar una fiebre, cuando los bebés no pueden evacuar con facilidad, cuando les da hipo, o simplemente sacar los gases cuando terminan de comer. Son cosas que poco a poco uno va aprendiendo en el camino, y que nos hacen madurar para actuar ante cualquier dificultad que se pueda presentar con nuestros hijos, claro está que ante una enfermedad lo primero que nosotros hacíamos era la de acudir de inmediato a su médico tratante. Pero bueno, esos seres maravillosos que son los abuelos, sabemos todos que tienen una experiencia superior.

When we are of a certain age and we are a little established, it may happen sooner, we want to have our children. Now, as no one was born learned and we do not have a parenting manual, besides if we are first timers in this aspect, many times we do not know how to act in case the children get sick a few months after they are born and we do not know what to do. Speaking from my own experience, we are aware that grandmothers have a high degree of wisdom in these situations so we are a little covered when we are near them, because when any eventuality occurs, they were there to help in whatever was necessary, and still always are.

But the situation changes when we are far away from the wise ones and emergencies happen, because at the end of the day we are boys. Grandmas have their tricks to lower a fever, when babies can't evacuate easily, when they get the hiccups, or simply to get the gas out when they finish eating. These are things that little by little one learns along the way, and that make us mature to act before any difficulty that may arise with our children, it is clear that before an illness the first thing we did was to go immediately to the attending physician. But well, those wonderful beings that are grandparents, we all know that they have a superior experience.

Entrando en contexto, luego de mi matrimonio en el año 1999 deseábamos tener un bebé, cosa que sucedió tres años después en el año 2002 cuando nació mi preciosa Nancy Victoria. Aunque ella nació prematura a los 8 meses a causa de pérdidas constante del líquido amniótico por parte de su madre, Nancy llegó al mundo muy sana. Tuvo sus consultas normales con la pediatra quien le llevaba su control de forma perfecta. Transcurrido los primeros tres meses todo iba normal, sucedían sus dificultades normales, si tenía fiebre la controlaban a través de sus baños y medicamentos.

Si le daba hipo la abuelita decía, póngale un hilo en la frente que con eso se le quita. Pero bueno, allí íbamos poco a poco aprendiendo, Nancy creciendo, bella, hermosa, gordita y yo aún joven, jajajaja. Y aprovechando para ese tiempo justamente pasamos su primera navidad en casa los abuelos maternos en un pueblo llamado Merito ubicado en la Península de Araya estado Sucre. Allí la pasamos fenomenal sin ningún percance, la niña soportó el traslado en bote de una costa a otra, porque dicen que el viento del mar y el sereno le puede causar un poco de resfriado por el cambio de clima, pero todo salió bien.

There we had a great time without any mishap, the girl endured the boat ride from one coast to another, because they say that the wind from the sea and the serene can cause a little cold due to the change of weather, but everything went well.

La primera como es lógico, disfrutar el viaje; la segunda era la de cumplir la promesa a la Virgen del Valle de llevar a Nancy a su santuario y dejar allí el vestido con que Nancy salió de la clínica. Y la tercera misión, aprovechar y comprar las bebidas para la fiesta de mi Nani.

Pero como una cosa es lo que uno planifica y otra lo que sucede. Días antes del viaje Nancy empezó a enfermar, le dió mucha fiebre, no quería comer, lloraba mucho. La llevamos a su pediatra, la revisó y tenía la garganta roja, inicio de amigdalitis. Le mandó su tratamiento pero antes de regresar a casa le preguntamos si podíamos realizar el viaje a Margarita y ella nos dijo que si, que no había problemas, que estuviéramos pendientes de su tratamiento y más nada. Lógicamente con sus cuidados y resguardos ante los cambios de clima. Nos fuimos un poco pensativos de si íbamos o no a realizar el viaje. Al llegar a casa como siempre los abuelos allí pendientes y también nos decían, van a viajar así, no creo que sea conveniente. Nosotros solo decíamos, vamos a esperar como le va con el tratamiento.

When we got home, as always, the grandparents were there and also told us, they were going to travel like this, I don't think it is convenient. Los días pasaron y Nancy estaba mucho mejor por lo que decimos hacer el viaje, aún cuando los abuelos no estaban de acuerdo. Se dió el viaje llegamos al Hotel cómo a las 4 de la tarde, salimos a comprar las bebidas para la fiesta de Nancy, volvimos al hotel, disfrutamos allí y nos preparamos para salir al día siguiente al santuario de la Virgen del Valle. Al otro día estando en el Santuario, Nancy inició con fiebre nuevamente, le dimos su medicina y la fiebre bajaba; seguimos disfrutando el día pero pendientes de Nancy. Regresamos al hotel y las muchachas se quedaron en la habitación mientras nosotros nos fuimos al área de la piscina.

Luego de dos horas de estar en la piscina, como a eso de las 6 de la tarde nos llaman porque Nancy estaba full fiebre y llorando mucho. Subimos, le tomamos la temperatura y estaba un poco más de 40 grados. Me volví loco, mi esposa llamó a su mamá, estábamos muy nerviosos y sin saber que hacer. Nos dijo báñenla primero con agua templada antes de aplicar la medicina, porque el medicamento muchas veces tiende a subir la temperatura en primera instancia y si tenía 40, lo primero era bañarla. Nos dijo que tampoco la abrigaran y luego de todo eso le aplicamos el medicamento pero nada que bajaba la fiebre.

We went back to the hotel and the girls stayed in the room while we went to the pool area.

After two hours of being in the pool, at about 6:00 p.m. they called us because Nancy was running a high fever and crying a lot. We went upstairs, took her temperature and it was a little over 40 degrees. I went crazy, my wife called her mom, we were very nervous and didn't know what to do. She told us to bathe her first with lukewarm water before applying the medicine, because the medicine often tends to raise the temperature in the first instance and if she had a temperature of 40, the first thing to do was to bathe her. She told us not to keep her warm either and after all that we applied the medicine but nothing brought the fever down.

Solo quería regresar a Cumaná lo más rápido posible para que la examinara su pediatra y diera con lo que tenía Nancy, porque en ese momento nosotros no sabíamos nada de nada, no sabíamos que era amigdalitis, colitis, éramos unos inexpertos. La cosa era que los boletos de lancha tenían hora de salida 1 pm, por lo que decidí que mi esposa, mi hija y yo nos fuéramos de madrugada al aeropuerto para ver si habían pasajes.

Así lo hicimos, estuvimos en el aeropuerto a las 5 de la mañana con la niña prendida en fiebre, pero resulta que solo habían boletos para las 11 de la mañana. Me dije, por lo menos son dos horas antes con respecto a la lancha y los compramos. Ahora, como nada puede ser perfecto y para más nervios en mí, el vuelo se retrasó más de tres horas, que desesperación, salimos casi a las tres de la tarde. Hicimos esta travesía pensando que por avión sería más rápida la llegada, pero resulta que cuando llegamos a Cumaná ya mis hermanos estaban en el aeropuerto esperando por nosotros, que cosas y que desesperación porque la niña llegó prendida en fiebre. Nos fuimos a la clínica, la vió su pediatra y resulta que tenía las amígdalas full infectadas, fue la primera vez que recibió su benzetacil, santo remedio en una sola puesta.

I said to myself, at least two hours earlier than the boat and we bought them. Now, as nothing can be perfect and to make me even more nervous, the flight was delayed for more than three hours, what desperation, we left almost at three in the afternoon. We made this trip thinking that by plane would be faster arrival, but it turns out that when we arrived in Cumana my brothers were already at the airport waiting for us, what things and what despair because the girl arrived in fever. We went to the clinic, she was seen by her pediatrician and it turned out that her tonsils were fully infected, it was the first time she received her benzetacil, holy remedy in just one visit.

A raíz de esto me dediqué a consultar todo tipo de enfermedades, tratamientos, síntomas hasta aprendí a inyectar, por lo que yo mismo le aplicaba los tratamientos a mis niños.
