With our busy schedules and the fact that we seldom have all of our kids under one roof at the same time, we celebrated a belated Father’s Day together, by having a braai outside on a sunny winter Monday afternoon.
On the menu was a rack of pork ribs, a rack of lamb ribs, chicken drumsticks and garlic bread. Dessert was scrumptious, diy smores, that the kids made themselves.
While the drumsticks were smoking away, we prepared the ribs with basic salt and pepper, olive oil, rosemary and spice.
The lamb was delicious, rich with crispy fat crackling when we ate it. The pork ribs needed a bit of extra love, and we basted it with yummy @Jimmys steakhouse sauce.
As the sun was setting in the late afternoon sky, we built a blazing bonfire to ward of the chilly winter night.
Part of the fun was that the kids were in charge of dessert.
They toasted and scorched their marshmallows on the sweltering flames, then lathered a generous amount of Nutella chocolate spread on Mari biscuits.
They squashed the sizzling marshmallows between two biscuits and sat back and savored their delectable deserts.
As the night progressed, we cuddled next to the fire, the kids were singing and burning branches in the comforting flames.
