Happy #MushroomMonday! 🍄
I happened upon this puffball explosion today and decided to share it. I believe these are the appropriately named stump puffballs (Apioperdon) https://www.wildfooduk.com/mushroom-guide/stump-puffball/
Appropriately named because they are growing out of a stump 😁 Interesting to see some of the puffballs are starting to burst open.
This tree fell terrifyingly close to our house. Luckily it fell away from the house not towards the house. I started cutting up the tree but got distracted. I came back a few weeks later and these puffballs were hard at work on the stump.
I also have some shots of Shrimp of the Woods from a Forest Preserve near my house (Aborted entoloma) https://foragerchef.com/entoloma-abortivum-aborted-entoloma-mushroom/
I wanted to share this photo that shows aborted entoloma and unaborted entoloma next to each other.
Although I didn't find enough to harvest, I also found a few black trumpets.
A family of Black trumpets maybe? Big sis and two younger siblings 👪
I think this is Amanita muscaria - fly agaric or fly amanita. According https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria, mature fly amanita sometimes have spots washed off with heavy rains.
I wasn't foraging but looks like someone else was lol
Good to know the Lorax is out there looking out for the trees 🤣
Have a great week! Thanks for checking out my post 👍
