Hello movie lovers! How you doin'? Hope everyone is well! ❤️
With my most recent trip where I got to roam in 5 cities of Italy during our 5 days long stay in a new country, I kind of neglected my posts on the chain which is something that usually never happens. Or at least didn't happen that often in the almost 5 years since I joined this network.
However that could have been easily avoided if I would prepare my posts in advance as I usually do but with all the excitement of being able to travel again and a few more things that kept me busy lately, it made me fail terribly on storing some drafts. Happily, today is already the 3rd day since I'm back in Romania and in my little room where all the magic happens... so, I'm back with new forces and topics to write about. Let's get started!
Since it's a movie review on a quite niched field, I do expect to not get a lot of people stopping by because honestly I never heard of this movie until I thought about searching for some films that involve lots of mountain biking and tricks that could make me feel some of the adrenaline even if I was sitting on the couch while watching and not on the saddle. But I do believe that it's worth being watched even if you are not a fan of this sport.
Though, if you think that there's not much to see in a movie where you basically watch some guys riding their bikes - you are wrong; because the movie is a lot more than that.
Introduction
First of all, we are talking about the world's best riders who present one by one how everything started, where it led, and last but not least, that they have no limits and always ride their bikes like it's the last day of their lives. Not to mention that the real trails begin where the road ends, so the movie definitely presents some perspectives that most likely very few of us get to explore even for just a little.
Secondly, as fun and full of adrenaline everything seems, the movie will show some dark sides too, like the risks every rider has to assume that not always end up in their favour. So while most of the kids received sooner or later a bike to ride in their youth and ended up falling from it for a few times until they learned how to ride it, these guys get to fly over the mountains while traversing the globe on two wheels and pedalling on some of the most rugged terrain surfaces which make them aware that if they fall, the day of tomorrow is not a certainty anymore.
Description
What's important to be mentioned is that Accomplice is a documentary movie so don't expect to see a specific route to be followed - for example, to have a start and an end. Because as I said, the movie presents all kind of moments from each of the world's most talented riders' lives, remembering about both how they discovered their passion but also how they turned it into a full time activity. However, all these moments are dropped randomly in the movie so it's a little bit hard to consider the film a well-organized one but it does a great job bringing all kind of emotions in waves.
Though, if you are wondering how I run into this kind of movie is because both I and my boyfriend discovered how much we enjoy cycling just 1-2 years ago but while we call ourselves adults now, it's a bit hard to take this any further than just a passion where we get to cycle a few kilometres once in a while.
So the memories of when we were kids and had no fear of riding a bike, doing lots of tricks and even risky movements, pushed us to search on the internet for some movies where braver people do some majestic tricks with a cool landscape in the background. And that's how we found out about Accomplice which even if it lasts less than one hour, kept us entertained and curious to see what is coming up next.
No doubt the movie isn't featuring just 2-3 free-riders but actually a lot, including Graham Agassiz, Andreu Lacondeguy, Hannah Bergemann, Veronique Sandler, Cameron Zink, Tyler McCaul, Erik Fedko, Tom van Steenbergen, Ethan Nell, Jaxson Riddle, Paul Basagoitia, Nico Vink, Kurt Sorge, Garett Buehler, Carson Storch, Cam McCaul, and Brandon Semenuk. I'm curious if you recognize any of these names. 😊
What I enjoyed seeing the most though, was that there are also girls who take this passion further than others do, the moment of Hannah Bergman being amongst my favourites. I'm also going to share this down below in case anyone wants to get a closer look what's Accomplice about, before pressing the play button.
Opinions
I usually try to stay away from movies that are quite niched because it's obvious these aren't created with the thought of being watched by everyone. But Accomplice is way beyond that because it presents moments that perhaps we all had in our youth like getting a bike as a b-day gift or riding a friend's bike just to have fun. The thing that some people decided to take this to the highest level possible is a different story, but overall I think it's something that can be enjoyed equally by both bike lovers and usual people.
I loved to see a lot of perspectives and angles the action was filmed from because it shows professionals in all domains and not just on the bikes, so I'm sure it's impossible not to adore some beautiful landscapes being shared in the background of the world's best freeriders.
Conclusions
Talking about a documentary based on real-life events, do expect to see some other moments too, which are on the opposite of the fun and exciting rides people enjoy because as I said at the beginning of the post, it's impossible not to assume some risks too.
But if you ever wondered how far would you take a passion; if you would risk your own life for it; or if you would enjoy living the rest of your life just through this passion without being able to do something else; then Accomplice is the answer to all your questions.
Nevertheless, if we leave the movie aside for a moment then it's easy to say that extreme sports are definitely not for everyone and hence why not a lot of people are tempted to click the watch button. Though, respect and gratitude are something that we are all born with, and the freeriders from Accomplice definitely deserve it all.
Have you seen "Accomplice"?
If not, what's the sport you enjoy watching movies with?
