After seeing all the episodes of
Lucifer (which was pretty incredible and I am going to write something about it soon) and
Vikings, both part; I was stuck and was wondering what I'd watch next. I have not always been really into movies and all, so I usually end up watching old films and series years after their release, sometimes, never. I was wondering what to see next, so I decided to see this after a recommendation. I have really taken my spirituality more serious recently and I like to think of myself as a curious soul. One of my philosophy in life is to go after or should I say 'welcome' concepts that directly contradicts my ideologies. One of two things is bound to happen; either I realize I have been wrong all this while or I improve my arguments. Win Win either ways. The series was created by
Simon Barry and it stars
Alba Baptista as the main character and a host of others.
ABOUT
The series is about a young woman who dies and finds herself in a morgue after a rather depressing and uneventful life with a life-changing tragedy she experienced. Her story changed when she somehow ends up with a sacred and powerful relic that belongs to a religious sect of Nuns used for fighting demons and that. A life she seems to have just gotten back look to be taking another path. So begins her adventure into the religious life. Unearthing age long secrets, discovering herself and making a family. All while locked into the never ending fight between good and evil.
THE BAD
It is always difficult for me to put either the good or the bad first. It can be pretty pivotal which comes first, both for my writing and for you reading it. I don't think there was anything bad even. Make no mistake, 'the good' and 'the bad' is totally my opinion and not accepted law. I have only seen the season one, and I feel like the season two has a whole lot more to offer with how the first season ended. I did loathe the weird idea of a character soliloquizing. It always felt like a lazy form of writing.
THE GOOD
Oh my days, there is so much positives to share about this series. Firstly, it puts the LGBTQ community in good light. I believe in equality and mutual respect of peoples choice and culture. Whether it aligns with ours or not, we shouldn't try to impose anything or anyone, or shut anyone off. The movie delves into the ever controversial topic of religion and science ad it does so while staying neutral. It respected both parties while still putting factual data forward. Brilliant.
STREAM OR SKIP
STREAM. This is arguably one of the best Netflix shows of recent years. The first episode was published July 2020. This was during the pandemic so you'd naturally expect a lot of people to watch anything, but it still topped the charts. The second season was released last year and it has left fans stoked. I give full credit to the team for how respectfully they approached such delicate topic. One thing that can easily go unnoticed is the amazing acting with all the subtle innuendos, acute wit and super duper plot twist. Loved everything.
Thank you for reading my film review-ish. This one is how I saw the series. Do tell me if you think otherwise, I might have missed something or even misinterpreted it. Also go check it out if you haven't. Cheers.
