The $2 dollar bill is a unique bill amongst the US currency.
The one pictured here is series 1995. On the front is a portrait of President Jefferson and on the back, a depiction of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of 1776.
The $2 bill tends to give a little thrill when you get your hands on one as it’s not something you see daily.
The $2 bill is America’s rarest small denomination in the US currency system. On June 25, 1776, Continental Congress authorized the $2 denomination for the defense of America. Only 49,000 bills were issued at that time. It was first commissioned in March of 1862, and discontinued from 1966 to 1976. In 1976, it was brought back as part of the bicentennial celebration. It was last issued ins 2003.
During the 1950’s, there were low numbers printed which resulted in it becoming the rarest current denomination of US currency. That in turn caused hoarding of the bills. Today, it constitutes around 1% of all notes in circulation.
Rummaging around in my stack, I happened upon this two dollar bill.
This is a lovely .999 fine silver $2 bill. On the front is a portrait of President Jefferson just like the currency has. This particular series is 1999. It is richly detailed around the edges of the bill. On the back again, is a depiction of the signing of the Declaration of Independence of 1776. It too, is nicely detailed.
This bar weighs in at 4.095 Troy ounces. I like ‘pretty’ silver, so this one is just up my alley.
